Comic Con Talk (Renamed since LA Comic Con can't get it together) (2 Viewers)

David Tennant, Linda Blair, Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, Ralph Macchio.

I would have paid for all these autos. If this is what I can expect for Big Easy Con, I'm gonna be broke. Better start saving.

Big Easy Con already announcing guests. I'd like to meet Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis. This is a promising start.

Awesome Con 2019 (next April) in Washington DC also has Spiner and Sirtis booked -- plus Val Kilmer. I wonder if Big Easy Con will get Kilmer, too?

"No, sorry ... Billy Kilmer was not my dad."

Looking up who Awesome Con 2018 had this past March might give some hints at who'll come to N.O. next June. Some repeats from the Rose City 2018 list, some not: John Boyega with someone controlling (the real movie prop?) BB-8, John Barrowman, Dave Bautista, the tireless Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn (nice get!), Stephen Amell from Arrow (came to N.O. with WW in 2017), Michael Dorn again, Rene Auberjonois, Cress Williams from Black Lightning, Tom Welling from Smallville, Ben Savage from Boy Meets World (ok?), and Charisma Carpenter from Buffy & Angel (she was in N.O. for the WW Comic Con this past January).

I saw Macchio at the Raleigh con I went to in July. Dude has a great plastic surgeon.

Went to s small local con in Covington today. It was pretty nice; smaller than expected. I was able to get 60 for $60. Not a bad haul today.

How many long boxes of comics do you have?

The St Tammany Collectors Convention? Was there today also. Some family friends run a large booth of collectible toys and games + a few long boxes of dollar comics.

About 8 followed by a good bit of short ones.

Yeah. It was my first time in attendance.

I see Wizard World New Orleans just updated their guest list. It's okay, but nothing earth shattering. Nobody that makes me say, "Ohhh, I'm buying my tickets now."

Agreed, especially considering a minimum of 10% will cancel. And still no creators of any worth.

So, we've got some updates:

Louisiana CC just announced Edward Furlong, which is pretty good for T2 fans. I'm still most excited for C.J. Graham (Jason part 6).

Wizard World N.O announced some other guests who are mostly meh. For a major con that's about a month and a half away, it is extremely lackluster. https://wizardworld.com/comiccon/new-orleans

Nothing from Big Easy Con, but that one's not until June, so it's still early.

Yeah. I called out Wizard World the other day one Facebook. Think I might do the same on Twitter next. Lackluster doesn't describe the current lineup.

So far, Wizard World New Orleans celebrity list is looking like it's gearing strongly toward television popular with women. My wife will go anywhere Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries) and Matt Ryan (Constantine) are appearing. The appearances of the other Vampire Diaries stars is more icing on the cake. She's also big on iZombie and Outlander (though the latter really needs the principals to appear, not the third-tier actors).

On the other hand, there's almost no one from contemporary sci-fi/fantasy films. Very TV-heavy ... a lot like the 2017 WW N.O. con.

TV personalities, even big ones, are way cheaper to book. Especially if you're a CW actor. Not bashing that channel as I enjoy several shows on it, but it's an interesting place where many of the shows have rabid fanbases and will draw attendees to cons, but it's still very niche and they can get the actors cheaper. But Wizard World going cheap is just further proof of their imminent demise. Again, hoping Big Easy Con takes off. WW can pound sand.

Edward Furlong is a disaster of a human being. A literal junkie who last I saw looked to be pushing 300+lbs and like he hadn't slept or showered in days. But he's got name value. They also just announced Kel Mitchell. It's a nostalgia thing, but he at least had some geek cred with Mystery Men. I'm most excited about Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar) and CJ Graham (trying to get all my Jasons taken care of). They're relying a bit less on their circuit guests this time and bringing in some newer names, which is good. Less power rangers this go round, please.

Wizard World has two of them coming

All the more reason I'm not going. I just can't deal. Or am I, as a comics guy, asking too much?

I've already resigned myself to the thought that if I want to attend a true comic convention, I'll be going to either Charlotte (HeroesCon), Baltimore, or to NYCC. I don't even have a desire to go to SDCC anymore.
