The recently released Halloween movie basically said that all previous 18 sequels are null and void

Not even in a Bobby Ewing in the shower "bad dream" kind of way - they just never happened

And this new movie is technically Halloween 2

Pretty bold move

The only other time I can remember this being done was Superman returns which takes place after Superman 2 and disregards 3 and 4 (which is probably for the best)

Can you think of any other franchises that should follow suit?

The first to mind to me aren't technically sequels - it's the Star Wars Prequels,

I don't know if I've ever been as disappointed in a movie theater than I was watching Phantom Menace

I know that the TV cartoon series that are canon are heavily involved with the set up from the prequels but unless I messed it neither Force Awakens or Last Jedi made any reference of anything from them

Disney has already erased the vast extended universe canon (now Legends) with a wave of their hand. No reason they can't do it again

I'd love to see a do over of them - The fall of Anakin Skywalker should have been an epic Greek tragedy instead it was more or less a hissy fit.

In our own thread on force awakens someone had their own idea of the prequels that was worlds better than what we got (I'll see it I can find it later)

I wouldn't mind if Indiana Jones 5 ignores Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls either

Not what you’re asking but Buckaroo Banzai needed its promised sequel
I would have wanted the younger Peter Weller, but thinking about it, I could def see him older and beaten down as if the travel through the 8th dimension took its toll

Wish they’d start over after Rocky 4, and redo the way everything played out.

Thought balboa was decent and creed was good

Rocky 5 was a dumpster fire though

Agree. It’s a shame, because you could argue that his fight against Ivan Drago was the perfect embodiment of Rocky at his absolute peak and in his prime. He was never in better shape than he was at that time, and he had never had to dig deeper than he did to win that fight. They should have written in a couple more fights after that point, where he could have realized his body just couldn’t go consistently anymore. I think writing in brain damage was a little bit of a cop out.. or perhaps they were just under pressure to wrap the series up at the time?

Spiderman and Xmen are 2 of the best comics ever
but with some rare exceptions their movie treatments have been mostly lackluster
Xmen need to step into the Avengers spot
Spiderman might could get a bit more quiet - Homecoming was a good start - maybe even a bit smaller

I believe Highlander did this with 3, which was not good but still better than 2, which was incomprehensible.

me too. I wish they would start over and not even make one after 4.

Serious question, when has any movie had a good sequel beyond a 4th overall movie. Most don't even get to #2. We should stop expecting them and stop paying for them. You did great movies now stop getting fat off of them and go make something else creative.

Airplane 2 predicted this **** perfectly all the way back in 1982

The last two were way too over the top but I thought the 4th and 5th fast and furious movies were the best of the series

don't hate on Tommy Gunn

He needs and deserves to be hated on

Probably second only to phantom menace as my most disappointing sequel

I’ve seen 5 start to finish exactly once and that was one time too many

X-men movies were hit and miss but I wouldn’t call the hits rare

I really liked 1,2, first class, future past and Logan

Logan was fantastic
the rest were 'good enough'
but xmen comics are like 3x better than Avengers, so I'd want movies to be the same
actually Xmen might be better as a permiere tv series

Robocop

The second was terrible and I don’t remember the other or the TV show at all

And I don’t want another sequel I just them them to say everything thing after terminator 2 never happened

Heck, Highlander 2 did it with its self, with the renegade cut or whatever they called the directors cut.

The basically said Highlander 2 was an alternative version of the first Highlander. It wasn't even a sequel. Then 3 was more a continuation of 1. So weird..
