Anyone else getting that 09 feeling? (1 Viewer)

Bill Barnwell isn’t, whomever that is.

I posted this in another thread regarding alot of naysaying on whether or not this team is truly dominant.

It's not so much the feeling of knowing we are going to win every game, because I'm still just as nervous before the game starts as I have been at any point in my Saints' Fan Life. It's more of the confidence that they are not going to blow this game when things start looking shaky. Kinda like the Rams game when they tied it up. I said to myself, OK, 0-0 ball game. What happened earlier when the game was 0-0? Oh yeah, we went up 21.

It's the ability to now watch the games with a confidence that although the car is shaking and feels like the wheels are getting ready to come off, the belief in this team's confidence and will is going to steady that ride right up and take us to the finish line.

It's that same calm confidence that I got late in 2009 and retained through 2013. Then of course, 2014-2016 came and shattered that. But by Week 8 of last year, it was back. And even the fluky Buc's opener didn't sway me. Because we played well enough to win the game, and I knew we would get the defense improved game by game. And as we saw in the Rams and Ravens games, the defense is starting to gain it's confidence by making those timely plays when it counts the most (Anzalone Int, Stop on 4th and 2, PJ Pick 6) I have no illusions that the defense will become the 85 Bears by the end of the season, but I've gained the confidence they will continue to make these timely stops/turnovers to close out games.

It's such an awesome feeling! WhoDat!?!?

When we break past 11 win wall. I'll be on board. Right now... I'm still focused out getting to. 500 and having a legit winning season at 9 wins. The 9th win is my biggest goal at the moment.

I've never felt anything like that feeling in 2009. That was special. We all knew something special was happening and as you said, we expected to win every game. I started getting that feeling during the Miami game which was the 6th game of the year. And after the Redskins game I think we all knew.

This win over the Rams kind of stirred the echoes of that magic feeling.

Every team that makes it to a Super Bowl has to get a few breaks. If Favre calls a running play instead of that ill-advised pass that we picked, we might not have made it the NFCG that year. So far, things seem to be falling right.

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Def not 09 season. Our defense would have take away after takeaway that year.

Also feel like we didn’t have too many close games like we are this year. There are also those few but it’s like a close game every week this year bc our defense is middle pack to below avg

Getting that ‘18 feeling.

And yeah. Looking at travel options to ATL. Probably can’t afford an actual ticket, but to just be in the city would be dope. Any rich whodats want to sponsor someone that would cause a ruckus and get the section hype?

Right? Lol
When was in Houston recently I looked at tix....my wife would have murdered me.

One of my pals is a Falcons season ticket holder and deathly afraid that we could play in and win the Super Bowl in their house. ??

This and this.
We were smoking teams in 09. Bad.

And also the breaks spot on, the Vikes turned it over 19 times too lol and we got a couple of huge calls that went our way in that game. Imo.

Need health, and some good bounces.

You mean that constant knot in the stomach where you can’t wait yet dread each Sunday...yes, I feel it. Love this team, this team is tough

No.

I am getting that 2011 feeling, where we looked unstoppable, had a juggernaut offense and then a god awful defense on the other side of the ball. If this defense at least could get turnovers, that would be a huge upgrade at least over 2011.

I hope we don't repeat 2011.

The defense was bad in 2009 too, but they got tons of turnovers that made up for it.

We had our fair share of close games that year against garbage teams we should've blown out; particularly the Dolphins, Rams and 'Skins. Late in the season, the Falcons gave us a hard game without Matt Ryan starting.

The major difference though was the turnovers. That defense looked great at times cause they got tons of turnovers.

Yes and it's causing me quite a dilemma. Bought 2 bottles of Markers Mark with the black and gold wax after the last SB victory. I still have them.

I feel like I need to drink them as I'll not be able to replace them unless they win it all again. Do I drink them during the regular season or playoffs?

In their ‘defense’ no pun intended, our defense has generated a couple of turnovers in the last few games that were huge factors in us winning.

And our staff has tried to address a major weakness that was exacerbated by losing Patrick.

I dont know about 2009 feeling that was special. More closer to 2011 feeling but even better.

Our offense is more scarier now than 2011..you dont know what you are getting with brees/taysom/Kamara cantgaurd Mike and now mix in dez. In 2011 ppl knew what we had just had a hard time stopping them. Both have bad defenses.. but this team just feels and seems better.
