Anyone else getting that 09 feeling? (1 Viewer)

Also in 2011 I've felt there were teams I were scared to play come playoff time (49ers and packers). This year I fear no team. Rams were the only one I said in the beginning of the season that scared me but after the Redskins game I kept saying I want the rams!

Now before the 09 season I just knew we were going to win the Superbowl.

But this is a different aspect on it. Back in 09 every week I just thought we were going to win each game. Not a cockiness, but an expectation we were going to win.

I have been having that same feeling the last few weeks. Things have been bouncing our way, and hopefully continue to do so. You need some luck and balls bounce your way for a championship.

Again, no cockiness just an expectation to win no matter the odds.

Who Dat!!!!
Hell yes!

Not 2009, no.

That team came out loaded for bear and just unapolgetically beat the **** out of teams almost as soon as the coin hit the ground for the opening game..........and kept it going for a solid portion of the season. They didn't start the season losing to a journeyman QB........or doing all they could to hand a victory to Cleveland before finally just saying "OK, if you don't want it, we'll take it".

I'll tell you what this season feels like. This season feels like a gigantic reward for Brees's patience and everything he's done for the team. It feels like he walked into a room, and everyone yelled SURPRISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEE.........and when he opened his gifts...........he opened up a "we're not 0-2 to start a season" from Payton..........followed by an insanely high completions-per-targets percentage from Thomas..........and hey, Justin Tucker even showed up to the party....and since he realized he needed to go big for such a living legend, he brought his one and only missed PAT ever........then there was our defense against Atlanta....showing up with an unexpected 3-and-out when it certainly seemed like the usual script would be Matt Ryan throwing about 3 or 4 passes and setting up Matt Bryant for a 52 yard game-winning FG in regulation. Tre'Quan Smith brought a deep TD catch to give Brees his yardage record. Kamara didn't bring a sophomore slump to the party, which was all the gift he needed to bring. Alex Anzalone and PJ Williams showed up a bit late.....but they still showed up with some turnovers. And just when Brees thought he'd unwrapped every gift, in walked Dez Bryant...

I’m trying really hard not to get excited. But, if Apple keeps coming into form and Dez becomes the player he can be at the other WR position I mean good lord.

No.

I am getting that 2011 feeling, where we looked unstoppable, had a juggernaut offense and then a god awful defense on the other side of the ball. If this defense at least could get turnovers, that would be a huge upgrade at least over 2011.

I hope we don't repeat 2011.

I've felt the same all year. This offense is 2011 type unstoppable. Two things that are different though:
1. We have one of the best run defenses in the league.
2. The defense has won us some games this year despite giving up huge plays at the worst times.

Also the biggest thing, If we keep pace we will be #1 seed with the playoffs going through New Orleans. That's the main reason we didn't go all the way in 2011.

The defense was bad in 2009 too, but they got tons of turnovers that made up for it.

We had our fair share of close games that year against garbage teams we should've blown out; particularly the Dolphins, Rams and 'Skins. Late in the season, the Falcons gave us a hard game without Matt Ryan starting.

The major difference though was the turnovers. That defense looked great at times cause they got tons of turnovers.
We had the 20th ranked D that year. Not too good but you’re right, the turnovers made up for it.

No matter how good your team is you’ll always have close games. It’s the NFL. Every team is professional.

Let’s hope this D can create more turnovers. Marcus Williams needs to step up

That season was a bit strange, going 13-3 and still playing in the WC round.

I do. I know the details are WAY different, but bringing Dez in mid season feels like that moment we got Mike Mackenzie in (roughly mid season) that year. I don't know, it just felt like magic because in a "regular" year (one that we are in "maybe next year" mode), signings like that that are strictly for RIGHT NOW ONLY and not the future. Or I guess to say it another way, we're going ALL IN.

So, yeah, I'm feelin' it.

I'll say this - I 'knew' we would beat the Vikings and the Rams. So that's something. But I won't have that feeling going into the Carolina games. And oddly, I don't even have it against the Bengals this week. Even in '09 we got way behind in similar trap games and needed 2nd half miracles to win. At this point every team is going to get play us like its a playoff game for them.
It's a brutal schedule and this is where they have to earn it, week by week.

The Bengals aren't slouches. All else equal we should handle them but part of the trick is managing consistency and focusing for EVERY opponent and avoiding letdowns after the big marquee match-ups.

Nothing is a given.

The 09 defense was off the chart good for the first 6 or 7 games with massive stops and turnovers.

I expected every series that the defense was going to do something big.

(Sharper set a record for most Int yardage or something like that!)

Then...

the injuries started to pile up.

(Remember they needed to pull 2 (3?) db's off the street just play the Patricheats - and then they whup'd them big time!)

Then towards the end of the season, they started to gel again and made that great playoff run against some amazing QB's: Warner, Favre, Manning.

Thank you 09 team for an AMAZING SEASON and a SUPER BOWL VICTORY!

As for this year's team: Magic 8 Ball sez things are looking up!

They have made an amazing run thru Minn, Baltimore and L.A. in dramatic fashion.

At this point the only team that will beat the Saints are the Saints themselves!

Geaux Saints - Time to Kick Championship Butt Again

I predicted 09 also. Along with predicting all 42 years before. Just saying

Not like 2009 at all.

Different team. Different mojo.
This team is still finding its identity.
