Watch recommendations (2 Viewers)

Thanks for the input. I had not really looked around before posting.....looks like there are a lot of options at widely varying prices. I was thinking $1000 max, but it looks like thats being really cheap!!! lol

I think I should save up some more & purchase a good watch after I have a few grand! 25K ain't happenin' for a dude from Back Vacherie!

There are quality options in the $750 to $1K range. Cage probably can add to this.

If you wanted a classic Swiss brand, I think Tag Heuer makes a few models that are sub-$1k. For example: Amazon product ASIN B00QQUEJZK

And Tissot is a Swiss brand in that price range. https://us.tissotshop.com/men.html

If you want more "style" in the watch - I don't know much about the engineering, but that's the price-point that Shineola watches have targeted: https://www.shinola.com/mens/watches.html

I'm a pretty simple guy. I used to have an old Titanium Fossil watch, but I got tired of batteries, so I'm pretty much exclusively into Citizen Eco Drive watches (solar).

I now have three. I only buy them during black Friday sales, or other big price drops.

These are the three I own now, and not at these prices (if listed). I think the first two were $100 or less.

Amazon product ASIN B005MKGQMY was on sale for $125.

I have no idea why the amazon links just went away....

You can find nice watches around $1000. I like watches too much but I always try to keep them below $1000. All of mine are well under $1000. I am also not the guy that has to have an automatic watch and that saves quite a bit of cash. My collection includes a Seiko Orange Monster, Black Citizen Nighthawk, Movado 800 series, and my most prized possession, the 1st Omega ever worn in a James Bond movie. It is a quartz Omega exactly like in Bond. (This one was just under $1000 off ebay a long time ago. Probably closer to 2k now) I recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy Watch on a black friday deal from Costco at $280. Consider this route as well. You can make it look however you want. (The last one is the Samsung)

As you can see, I am more of a sport watch guy but I can dress any of these up with a nice leather band.

Good luck with your journey. It can get as expensive as you want it to be.

This is the one I bought several months ago.
The blue faced Citizen.
Great watch and not too expensive.
I got it for about $150 at Costco.

Fossil. Seriously, I have one and love it and their customer service is top notch.

I’d always wanted a Rolex and when I closed a large deal I splurged on this one. It’s 12 years old and actually being serviced at Rolex rift now. I also where a victorinox stainless steel dive watch and a Luminox from military days.

I currently own 3 wristwatches.

One is my "everyday" watch, one is my "fancy" watch and one is my "beater" watch. If you are looking for form over function, I'd suggest looking at Seiko or Citizen.

My "everyday" is a Breitling Skyracer Colt. It's at the low end of the Breitling line, as it is quartz (not automatic), but it is light as heck, keeps wonderful time, and has oversized numerals and hands for pilots, which really helps for us older dudes with presbyopia. I swapped out the factory bracelet for a black and gold NATO strap, for obvious reasons.

My "dressy" watch is a Tag Heuer Carrera chronograph. It is an "automatic" movement, so you will either have to wear it constantly to keep it moving, or look into an automatic watch winder/spinner to keep it up. Or, you'll have to reset it if you choose not to wear it regularly.
Also, keep in mind that if you go with an automatic watch, especially something complicated, you need to plan to have it serviced every 2-3 years, which can be pricy.
It is above the budget you specified, but just throwing it out there. Tag makes several more basic models (diver and pilot models) that cost much less, but just giving you a "heads up" about automatic movements vs quartz movements.

Finally, my "beater" watch is an ancient Fossil timepiece (more of a fashion watch) that just keeps ticking along. Have to adjust it every couple of months, but it keeps decent time and looks great for its age.

If you really want to delve deep into the horology world, go find the Urban Gentry site on YouTube (no affiliation, just an observer) and soak it in. Host gets a little long winded at times, but he is very informative.

I'm kind of old school, but I do think that a proper wristwatch, belt and shoes are important to a man's wardrobe. I also break out the french cuffed shirts and cuff links when the occasion calls for it, but that's just me.

Raymond Weil has some good looking automatics in the $900 range when I was looking a few years ago.

I have one of those. Very clean, classic look, with a leather strap so I can wear it with anything. Looked a little puny during the Age of Invicta :)
