...is really a challenge.

But from a purely factual historical point of reference, go to NFL.com where you can access ALL NFL playoff games facts. You will need to download the .PDF of each game you are interested in, to view EVERYTHING from that game. Start time, weather, officiating crew...etc. The NFL.com site has everything in a PDF for you to download.

In trying to figure out a formula from the historical facts, I did not have the time to try and figure out a formula (schedule) for the 2019 playoffs and when the Saints will play.

All I know is FACT at this time? The Saints will be playing in 1 of 4 time slots and either on Saturday, or Sunday, of the divisional round weekend and the game will be played in the Superdome.

So we need to wait until this Sunday night, during the Titans/Colts game, for the 2019 divisional round schedule.

The league will announce the wild-card weekend schedule when the Titans/Colts game is over. We won't know the divisional round schedule until wild card weekend is complete.

2017: 1st Seed played Saturday Early against 6th Seed (Who played on Saturday)
2016: 1st Seed played Sunday Early against 4th Seed (Who played on Sunday)
2015: 1st Seed played Sunday Early against 6th Seed (Who played on Sunday)
2014: 1st Seed played Saturday Late Against 4th Seed (Who played on Saturday)
2013: 1st Seed played Saturday Early Against 6th Seed (Who played on Saturday)
2012: 1st Seed played Sunday Early against 5th Seed (Who played on Sunday)
2011: 1st Seed played Sunday Late against 4th Seed (Who played on Sunday)
2010: 1st Seed played Saturday Late against 6th Seed (Who played on Sunday. Pattern Breaker)
2009: 1st Seed played Saturday early against 4th Seed (Who played on Sunday. Another Pattern Breaker)
2008: 1st Seed played Sunday early against 6th Seed (Who played on Sunday)
2007: 1st Seed played Sunday late against 6th Seed (Who played on Sunday)

Based on the pattern I'm seeing.. we should play Saturday Late. There's only 1 pattern breaker for the flip flop pattern, that's in 2015. As far as the pattern of playing the day the other team won, that has two pattern breakers, back to back in 2009/2010, but I'm not sure the 6th and 4th seed were projected to win that year. I'd rather bet on the we play Saturday based on flip flop.

I've already told the OP that an NFC team is most likely gonna be playing Saturday night of the divisional round.

I, too, believe it will be the Saints.............but I'm quite certain it will be an NFC team, regardless.

I even challenged him to a site donation wager in page 2 of this thread:

https://saintsreport.com/threads/do-we-play-on-the-12th-or-13th.399264/page-2

To this point, he hasn't responded. Not sure if he's still deciding...........or if he's completely uninterested and just choosing to ignore it rather than give an answer. If it's the latter, hopefully he'll at least give a yes or no to the challenge. Some people have financial and/or moral reasons for not participating in "gambling".

Great job of providing resaerch there GwachiSaint! Very nice. Thanks for your effort.

Not gambling on something such as what you are proposing. And again, it is not a point of betting. It is a general topic of discussion. It is not a fact when the Saints will play. Neither of us know. And neither really matters. Sit back and chill. It will be known Sunday evening.

I provided facts based on historical data from the NFL site. What you may have provided, or discussed, is your business and you do not know the day or time, the Saints will play. But you do have a 1 in 4 chance of being right. If you feel that good about a day and time, go to a casino and bet your money if they have a prop for it. They’ll accommodate your need to be right, bud.

You feel “quite certain” the Saints will be playing on Saturday evening. OK, so what? They could play the afternoon game. So what? Get my drift?

BOY YOU REALLY SHOWED HIM

You can gurantee we will be in primetime whether it's Saturday or Sunday.

Saints vs. Seahawks/Cowboys will be the highest rated game of the year. They aren't sticking that at 3:30.

I don't think there is a pattern of any sort other than how popular the matchup might be.

Timeslots seem to be ranked as such:

1. Late Sunday
2. Saturday evening
3. Sunday afternoon
4. Saturday afternoon

The weakest / potential last pick, seems to be whoever has the first Saturday game. On WC weekend, it's usually the ESPN / ABC game and they typically have no choice in game.

Of potential divisional matchups if top seeds win out.

1 vs 4 - Saints / Cowboys
2 vs 3 - Rams / Bears

1 vs 4 KC / Bal
2 vs 3 NE / Texans

This all appear to be a good mix of games so it's hard deciding which is the worst game. Normally New England is highly sought after, but Texans aren't a huge draw in my option.
In this scenario, I would guess it would go:

Sat afternoon: KC / Baltimore
Sat night: Rams / Bears
Sun Afternoon: NE / Texans
Sun evening: Cowboys / Saints

Actually, in any of your potential matchups, I'd see your first game as the Sunday evening game.
It will be:
Saints Cowboys, Saints-Seattle, Saints Eagles or Saints Vikings. The only one out of those scenarios I don't see as being huge for TV would be Saints-Seattle. In that case a Rams / Bears game would probably get the late Sunday game and Saints / Seattle would be Saturday.

The other item I believe to be true most of the time is Sunday Wild Card teams don't move up to Saturday often.

Do we know when this will get announced? This upcoming Sunday along with the Wild Card schedule? Or do we have to wait until the Wild Card round plays out?

They will announce Sunday night. They may wait until the SNF game is over if it depends who wins, but I am guessing they will know the preferences before that game is done regardless of who wins.

Usually they align the playoffs so the best matchup is divisional weekend's second Sunday game. If the Networks think it's going to be Dallas vs Saints, I'd expect Dallas to be a Sunday wild card game which would likely mean you would be a Sunday divisional.

They also seem to want the WC Saturday evening game to be an outdoor game / weather game.

From most of the things I can infer from the past, you'll be playing late Sunday on divisional weekend.

Go back and re-read the quote......I said "quite certain" it will be an NFC game. I do believe it will be the Saints, though. But the NFC part of that is what you can take to the bank.

Secondly, you keep talking about HISTORICAL DATA......and yet, you admit you haven't taken the time to try to recognize any type of pattern. So what was the point of this thread? Other than to tell us "oooh, go look at what happened in the past".

Well, fortunately I did review HISTORICAL DATA.....and here's how it's gone down since realignment in 2002:

2002 thru 2013: the divisional game on Saturday night rotated each season.........NFC played the night games in the even-numbered years, AFC played the night games in odd-numbered years. For whatever reason, in 2014 and 2015, they went back-to-back with NFC having the night games.......followed by the AFC having them in 2016 and 2017. It all but guarantees that the NFC will have the Saturday night spot in the Divisional round. Whether that goes to the Saints is speculation.........but all signs point to the NFC getting that spot. Again...patterns. They aren't hard to recognize.

I don't think there is a pattern of any sort other than how popular the matchup might be.

Timeslots seem to be ranked as such:

1. Late Sunday
2. Saturday evening
3. Sunday afternoon
4. Saturday afternoon

So....per this logic..............the Patriots vs. Osweiler and the Texans in 2016 (Pats favored by 16) was a more popular matchup than a hot Falcons team vs. a Seattle team who'd been to 2 out of the last 3 SBs heading into that game. Or the Patriots / Titans from last season (Pats favored by 13.5) was a more popular matchup than Falcons/Eagles.

No. It was simply the AFC's turn to have those particular night games.

It has nothing to do with rotating afc/nfc patterns, any pattern is coincidence, it has everything to do with tv ratings and the time zones of the teams in the game.
