Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Hangman Page have officially announced All Elite Wrestling, with their first event of 2019:

Tony Khan of the Jacksonville Jaguars has gotten together with the members of Being The Elite and have parlayed the success of BTE’s first event “All In” into a new promotion.

There is speculation of multiple TV deal options including WGN as well as heavy involvement from Jim Ross and Chris Jericho. A trademark has been filed for Tuesday Night Dynamite as well and could be a perfect slot for the promotion.

I felt now is the time to start a new discussion thread for this new promotion. The other Wrasslin thread is basically all WWE. With the incredibly poor product they have been putting out, It could be time to make a big move for AEW and there is tremendous buzz!

If you are unfamiliar with these guys, I suggest going to YouTube and watching their show “Being The Elite”. It is quite frankly the best bit of wrestling entertainment being produced today.

So let’s get it rolling! Besides Kenny Omega and Marty Scurll, who else do you think could make the jump to AEW in 2019!?

If they get a TV deal, I'll definitely check it out.

I have a feeling that a TV deal will happen in 2019 forsure. With the current climate and the President of AEW part of the 6.7 Billion dollar Khan family (Tony Kahn), I think they could pose a real bit of competition to WWE in the near future. A lot of wrestlers contracts are up soon, could prove extremely interesting!

HUGE NEWS****

Double or Nothing will be held on May 25, 2019

Chris Jericho has signed with AEW

They are gaining a lot of steam and we are just at the start of a lot of unhappy talent jumping. I am sure of that.

On top of that, there were reports of people wearing AEW shirts, not allowed to attend the SmackDown Live show tonight.

Really smart Vince, alienate your fan base even more!

They've piqued my interest for sure. Their current roster is already looking really good, and they had two really good surprises today in announcing that they've got Pac and Jericho on board. Kenny Omega is apparently a lock, too, but his contract with NJPW doesn't expire until Jan 31. I would assume Marty Scurll will be along once his RoH contract expires in April, although there is some speculation he might end up in NXT.

They've also got a deal with OWE in China, which is really interesting from a talent exchange perspective. China is becoming an emerging market for pro wrestling (it has no real history there like, say, Japan or Mexico) and that could be huge.

Also, both Tony Khan and Cody have made allusions to the fact that their wrestlers may be considered full time employees and have access to health care. If that pans out, it would be huge for the industry and a massive selling point for talent to come aboard.

All of these things are incredible. The full time employee pay and health care is definitely such a boon to offer and it will definitely get more talent interested.

The roster is really taking an intriguing turn, I wonder if they hold off on Omega until the Double or Nothing Event!? Imagine him coming in, in the middle of Hangman Page vs PAC for the title and betraying Page!

I’m thinking once they get a tv deal, they might hold off until the week after DoN to launch it.

What are your thoughts on that?

The concept that WWE superstars are independent contractors is the greatest furphy of all time. I am absolutely staggered that this issue has never been litigated (I know Mike Sanders, Kanyon and some others tried a long time ago but were statute-barred from bringing the claim). I like AEW has also announced equal pay and promotion of female stars on equal footing as the men. Pro-wrestling has been in the dark ages forever, so if this all comes to fruition, it can only be a good thing for the business. Guilt free pro graps. What a concept.

I don't watch much if any WWE any more. Regrettably, I don't have much time for pro-wrestling full stop. I did however see and meet Cody at an indy show in Australia a few weeks back and he's a high-calibre guy too. I will certainly try to make time to watch this.

So, who will have final say in booking/creative decisions?

As of right now the Bucks and Cody share the role of Vice Presidents so I am guessing they may have the book have agent duties as well but Billy Gunn has signed on to be a producer

The more I hear about AEW the more I like it. When I first heard that the bucks and Cody were going to start there own promotion I thought "Well it will last a year or two and then fold." But now that they have the backing of the Khan family and the vast resources that go with them, plus they are bringing in established pros like JR and Jericho and others they might have a shot at really giving true competition to WWE.

The WWE roster has become so deep they can't even get all the talent on TV every week. If they could truly offer comparable money to WWE and give them health care and maybe not be on the road so much then I could see several big names going after their contracts are up. Some names I would like to see get a new start would be:
Gallows and Anderson, Bobby Roode, Bo Dallas, Dolph Ziggler, Samoa Joe, zack ryder, curtis axel, apollo crews, Aiden English, Tozawa, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, The colons, Luke Harper, Itami, Mike Canellis, Tye Dillinger, and even some big names who have been gone awhile like Sami Zayn or KO. (I have no idea when or if any of these contracts are up but none of these people are being used right now.)

People are wanting an alternative to the same ole same ole WWE style. They keep giving the same guys the main spots over and over again and don't really create new stars. I have been following ROH/NJPW for the past couple years and they definately have better wrestling they just don't have the production value and names that WWE fans are used to. So if another promotion can have great wrestling and great production value with big established names then I think people will support it.

There are a ton of super talented wrestlers out there who can benefit from the new exposure and the fans want something different. There is only so many times people can see a Cena or Lesnar title reign. I wish AEW the best.
