Saints Kay Adams: Eli Apple will show up vs. the Eagles (1 Viewer)

Rev and Ellis have a really informative and stat based review on our secondary performance. They show that the deep ball is clearly not our issue on either side. The issue is underneath routes (less than 15yds). I dont have the link but if giving up deep passing plays is your concern search out Saints D vs Eagles Offense.

Yeah, the only question I had about that is how PIs are factored in. But it was definitely a concerning stat given the Eagles offense relies on that short stuff.

Still, I think it's a little different when you can game plan against it. If Apple is jamming WRs and we are using safety help on Ertz and Goedert, that number should look different.

Both corners have to be solid for the playoffs. Big Ben tested both Lattimore
AND Apple and we nearly lost that one.

Definitely right on this but Antonio Brown & JuJu are significantly better than any WR on Philly's roster. They'll get tested for sure. I just don't see them getting lit up like that did vs that awesome combo

Tate is a Saint killer I think Jeffery with a good QB is at least can make a case for Jeffery over Juju idk we’ll have to pay a good game period

Yeah, Tate worries me. He has given us serious problems in the past but we did manage to shut him down the first time we played Philly this year.

What I like about Kay (beyond the obvious) is that before the wildcard round games began, on one of her shows she talked about being from Chicago and talked about how she wouldn't mind seeing the Bears advance to the Divisional Round. But she never turned into a homer and picked the Bears to go all the way in the playoffs. Since the beginning of the season she has been loyal to her prediction of a Saints SuperBowl victory and continues to give her support to the Black & Gold. How can you not love her for that?!?!

This girl knows her stuff! :9:

I think she picked Saints vs Chargers in the SB before the season started. Pretty damn good forecast (and with a Saints win!). Yep Kay knows a thing or two about the NFL. Hats off. Respect

People forget that Eli Apple has played the Eagles five times in his career. Four times in his two seasons with the Giants and once with the Saints this year. He knows Foles' tendencies and those of the Eagles wide outs. Look what he did against Atlanta's trio of receivers, against Goff and the Rams receivers, and against arguably the best tandem of receivers in the league in Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Payton and Allen will have him ready, plus he himself is probably ready from the confidence in him shown by the Saints in trading for him, believing in him, and playing with his Ohio State buddies on the team.

That near loss wasn't necessarily because of the defense. Remember, the Saints panicked on offense after the Steelers scored the first TD after the Saints went up 24-14. Payton started throwing the ball around instead of sticking to the balanced attack that got them to that 24-14 score.
It was Apple, PJ Williams, and the rest of that defense that bailed the game out. If PJ Williams wasn't a part of that doulble team on that Rankins strip-fumble of Smith-Schuster with 36 seconds left, Smith-Schuster would have possibly been down by contact when the ball came out. Williams didn't allow any part of Smith-Schuster's body to hit the ground before the ball came out.

When playing Tate in the past with Detroit, the Saints didn't have a solid trio of CBs like they do now. They would either be weak at the slot, one of the outside corners, or both. Now they are pretty solid at all three positions, the safety positions and pass rushing with Jordan, Rankins, and Davis. They are also shutting down the run. Remember, this defense is extremely young and should only get better with time and experience.

The key to the defense in this game will be overcoming the quick release rhythm nature of Foles game. I believe it was NFL playbook that said the saints must jamm at the LoS and disrupt the timing, while giving the Dline and linebackers time to get home.

If that is in fact the game plan going in, and the DBs succeed, the defense pass rush will look like the heroes. The bottom line to me is that this game comes down to our DBs being physical.
