Hey to all,

Been a longtime fan, but due to being on the other side of the planet I've never been to New Orleans. Due to work I was lucky enough to be stateside and squeezed in a trip to NOLA. Two quick things to try and use some local info;

1: other than cafe Dumont, quick walk down bourbon and trip through the bayou, what would people recommend doing for a couple days before the game?

2: what's the general advice to get involved and in the thick of it on game day?

Thanks to all for the assist you gave the team last weekend and to any help, advice or guidance you could give.

National WW2 Museum (last I heard, it is the 2nd ranked museum in the world, set aside at least half a day, it's that big), live music on Frenchman St. (it's in the Marigny which is the area next to the French Quarter), ride the streetcar down St. Charles and check out the Garden District, check out one of the cemeteries, visit City Park, take a haunted history tour. Oh, and eat... a lot.

Welcome aboard!

Eat, eat and eat some more. Great restaurants everywhere.

French Quarter earlier on Gameday should be buzzing, then hit Champions Square about 2 hours before KO. Enter Dome about hour to go and watch warmups.....you'll feel the buzz :)

I don't know. Do a few restaurants that you might not have heard about. I always like Tujagues. Mr. B's. Favorite bar in town: French 75...next to Arnauds. Swamp Tour is fine I guess but a little touristy.

National World War II Museum is a must. Give yourself several hours. Plus, American Canteen is a great lunch.

Game day. Just get to the Dome. Champions Square. Plenty of tailgating. Tell people you are from out of the country and you won't go hungry or thirsty all day.

Mate - you're about to experience the best city in the world.

I can only endorse the suggestions above - particularly the WW2 museum.

The only other suggestion I would make is to enquire if the Saints museum is open at the Dome. I assume it is every gameday(?). But you can also attend throughout the week at designated times where it might be a little quieter.

Also, go and sit at the bar at The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery and have some oysters. I tried out a bunch of food places that were recommended to me and they were all fantastic for a variety of different types of cuisine, but the massive oysters I had there were the best I've ever had. Better than anything I've had from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide or Tasmania.

That's amazing, thank you Poison, Wildlife Aviation, Craig Walker and nolaspe. I'll be sure to be there early ( and check out Saints musuem before GameDay) eat a lot and check out Frenchman's, WWII museum and the restaurants/bars listed. Legends, thank you.

Compare Lapin, the restaurant in that hotel is excellent.

Find local food. You will not find another place on the planet outside of South Louisiana with the abundance of the particular local cuisine that New Orleans has. At the very least, I recommend Coops place on Decatur St if you plan to stick to the FQ. Seriously, NOLA tops most foodie lists for the USA. Leaving here only eating at chain restaurants would be like going to space and not being able to look at earth.

St Louis Cemetery is really neat but unfortunately it requires a tour guide purchase now. If you're up to going through it on tour, go for it.

The WW2 museum as others have said is excellent.

City Park is beautiful, unfortunately it's likely to be cold. Depends on the timing of the weather though. Friday and Saturday may be a bit over 20C for a high, but it also may rain a lot. Sunday it's looking cold at around 7ish for a high. While at City Park, there's a pretty cool art museum there.

Audubon Zoo is one of the best in the nation too. It's uptown.

Audubon Aquarium is really cool as well, that's in the quarter.

There's antique shopping on Royal St, which is 1 block away from Bourbon if you're into that sort of thing.

Oh, and it's Cafe Du Monde. I'd hate for you to google it wrong and you not find what you're looking for :)

Scream. Loud. Until there’s 15 seconds left on the playclock and McVay can’t communicate with Goff anymore.

Then scream louder.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had was the shrimp po boy at Domilse’s. Cash only at this outstanding hole in the wall joint.

Lest I forget, it's Carnival season, so you better make sure and eat King Cake...

Coli; Gaza here! NOLA born and raised; been in L.A. for a few decades and about 3 total years combined in The Lucky Land where I first discovered Cold Chisel in the early 80’s and Diesel and Australian Crawl---been a fan since I first heard Barnsey’s vocals on “Khe Sahn” to harmonies in “When The War Is Over”, the guitar licks from Mossy on “My Baby”, “Ita” and now “No Plans” and on now to “No Plans”. Anyway, for me? I’d just roam The French Quarters and don’t put much stock in Bourbon St. but use your head and be safe yet it’s still the BEST place to just get lost looking where your instincts take you. If the weather is pretty and not too cold? Cajun Encounters offers both Quarter Tours for history and a pretty sweet bayou trip to pick up on the bayou vibe but if it’s cold? THAT could be miserable unless you’re out there crawfishing in Spring but it’s NOT Spring and it’s probably going to be wet and Cold and Wet is NOT how to get into the bayou to find it’s beauty by any means. Find an elegant Hotel Bar for cocktails. The Cafe’ where you go to get on The Cajun Encounter’s tour bus? Make sure you get their most excellent BREAD PUDDING there and most ANY seafood dish. It’s called Molly Maguire’s and has GREAT food! If you want to do that on Friday, when you call to make your reservations? Ask to have Butch Jobert (that’s pronounced like JOE-BEAR just so you know your with a real Cajun to host you and don’t be shy to tell him Dr. Daddyeaux sent you for a little lagniappe ( a little something/something extra in Cajun French) as he and I have been Brothers since we were playing football together as kids. You won’t regret it one bit, I promise. Wandering Royal Street (one block toward The River from Bourbon) is excellent and take a stroll along The River Walk all the way past The Hilton for a great walk. Wear comfortable shoes as well. (BTW; The Pitjanjittjarra elders allowed me to spend the night alone on top of Uluru! I’m proud of that and even 3 decades hence The Legend of The Uluru White Fella" still lives as I was happy to prove to my Bro on our Exploration Down Under when I took him all over your Continent after his wife passed. What a trip! The DOME will blow you away to actually BE THERE for this year’s NFC Championship GAME~! It’s like going to an All-Black’s Rugby Game X’s 100! No Lie. So, Cheers Mate! It’s a great time ahead for you and PLEASE share whatever you decide to do and feel free to PM me for ANYTHING as many Aussie’s treated me GREAT every time I’ve spent time in your Country and I mean from the City folk to the ranchers, Coober Pedy miners and The PEOPLE of The Bush! Nothing but love from everyone every time, so I’m just trying to return the love back to you and your KREWE! Go to Cafe’ Du Monde too. It’s kinda like “Breakfast At Sweethearts” ( you get what I mean ) only not full breakfasts. For a GREAT breakfast? Take the streetcar from The Quarters all the way to the end of St. Charles Street ( a terrific way to travel the distance) and get off for The Camilla Grill! You’ll love it and THAT IS like “Breakfast At Sweatheart’s”! Cheers Mate, have a blast and enjoy that game, be prepared to holla! A LOT!

If the government shutdown ends, go to the Jean Lafitte National Park museum. It's fantastic and offers free walking tours around the quarter. The Cabildo has a Louisiana History Museum and the Presbytere has a carnival history museum which are both top notch. (Those are the two buildings flanking the Cathedral in Jackson Square.)
