I read about this earlier. I love going backpacking and camping in the mountains, and honestly I’d be more concerned with running into a mountain lion than a black bear. I’ve fortunately never encountered one, but I’ve seen plenty of scat so I know they’re around us. As soon as the sun goes down the dogs either go on a leash or go in the tent.

i like the story less now that i read it
it was an 80lb juvenile - not sure why it would attack
something seems off
maybe because it was a juvenile. duh. he could have possibly been jacking off during his mom’s instructions (-edit “instruction” or some sheet so that gmr understands) on encountering humans.

IDK, dude was jogging past it which is exactly what they say not to do as it triggers the cat's attack habit. As a juvenile it may have been it's first encounter with a human and inexperienced at hunting so more hungry and desperate than a mature cat.

Add's up for me...

Yeah...an adult would be far less likely too attack and if it did far less likely to lose.
