2018 Prospects to Watch (1 Viewer)

I think we need to get either a serious talent opposite Marcus Williams at safety or a linebacker who can double as a safety. Haven’t had the time to really get into players outside of the games I watched already though.

LSUs Delpit is a good one though. As is Devin White. But they are first rounders. Out of our range.

I can not agree more! Moving forward, I think we're solid at WR. Cam Merrideth should be healthy and hungry after another lost year and Kirkwood and Trequan should be even better and more reliable w/a year under their belts. In terms of a S/LB/MONEY, I'm really liking Taylor Rapp from Wash and my favorite S/DB this year is Nasir Adderley from Delaware.

Rapp is a serial killer in run support and is a big time hitter. He reminds me a lot of Eric Weddle. And I've been watching Nas Adderley since 2016. That dude has an uncanny knack for coming up w/huge game changing plays. I love his range and how quickly he locates the ball when they test him in coverage. He plays both CB and S w/a lot of fluidity and he also packs a legit punch in run support. He's also a very well versed KR. Yes, he's a small school DIV1 guy, but he was perpetually one of, if not, the best guy on the field on gamedays. I cant wait to see Adderley mix it up w/the rest of the class at the Senior Bowl.

A mid-late RD TE who i think would fit the O well is Zach Gentry from Mich. He may not have the “stats” that some of the higher ranked guys have, but he’s got all the makings of a high end combo TE. That dude is really fast for his size. He’s an accomplished blocker, has a knack for getting open, attacks the seams & is a legit dowfield threat. He had more chances this year to show off his improved receiving skills & had some pretty big games & a bunchnof splash plays. I think the arrow is pointing way up for Gentry & i think he’ll be a really good pro. Especially in an O like ours & w/a coach like Payton developing him.

I'd be all over Adderly but I'll be shocked if he doesn't go in the first round. Rapp might be an option but I don't think he has the speed to play deep.

With WR being one of the deepest positions in this draft, I've been focusing more on the Hollywood Brown Z/speed receivers, but the more I think about it, we need a Y/slot receiver even more. We have Ted Ginn in that "Z" role now, with Tre'Quan Smith as his back up.

In the slot, we have Meredith (IR) and Kirkwood. We don't know if Meredith can get right and who knows if Kirkwood ever becomes a serious threat. Someone like JJ Arcega-Whiteside or AJ Brown would be a perfect fit in that role.

Another option is TE, but with where we will be picking, the top TEs will be off the board and WR will likely be the better value.

A lot of this will depend on how the coaching staff feels about Ginn (age), Meredith (injury), Smith, Kirkwood, and Arnold, as well as what happens in free agency. There is no way to know for sure, I'm just killing time waiting for this game vs Philly. I guess it's been too long since we've played a meaningful game.

The more I watch Rapp, I'm starting to really like him. I'm also starting to think there is no way he makes it to our pick. He definitely won't if he runs a sub 4.6. Harrison Smith is who he looks like to me, I just don't know if he has the same straight line speed.

Ya, I think Rapp plays fast, and his ability to read/diagnose plays and flow quiclky to ball make him even faster. I agree that Rapp's got 1st RD chops. But there's a bunch of guys at other positions like WR, LB, OL, TE and especially EDGE/Pressure guys who could cause him to fall(at least that's what I hope). Plus who knows what QBs will get pushed way up draft boards for those needy teams desperate of a signal caller. Same goes for Nas Adderley. I hope one falls to us, though.

On a side note, went to Walter's for the first time in a long while and saw them mock AZ WR N'keal Harry to us. I've not been a fan of Walter for the last few years, but hey...I would absolutely LOVE to see us draft Harry. That dude looks like he has all the makings of a TO-type player, minus the BS. If N'keal happens to fall that far, which I doubt but hope, WOW! I like AJ Brown a lot, but to me, N'keal Harry is the best WR in the draft. I would not be mad at all if he was our dude. I love this time of the year!

Harry might be WR1. He's up there with Metcalf and Harmon. I don't know what Walter is smoking, but yeah I would lose my mind if we somehow landed Harry.

As for the safeties, I think it plays out like this. Just my opinion of course. Adderly goes round 1, maybe even the first safety off the board. Rapp's draft stock will hinge on his combine. If he runs a sub 4.6 then he's a first round lock. If he runs a sub 4.7 then he has a chance of falling to us. Any slower than that and he might not be worth our 2nd round pick.

So I've ready talked about how much I like TJ Hockenson. He's my favorite TE in this class. Well Dawson Knox is a close second. I think it's about time we draft a TE. It's been quite a while.

With the limited number of picks the Saints own, I want to mention a guy that will be available late, and could end up even being an UDFA when all is said and done...

Drue Tranquill, OLB/SS, Notre Dame: 2-time team captain at ND, and a tough/gritty football player. Pretty much checks all of the boxes when it comes to “white guy cliches” concerned with prospects... he’s a “lunch pail” guy with “high effort”, yada yada yada.....

Could/should be an immediate ST contributor and viable sub-package LB/S hybrid or coverage WILL that is a positive locker room presence from Day 1.

I’d be excited and hopeful if the Saints landed him in round 5 or beyond.

Hellye! It's that time of the year! Cant wait to see:
EDGE Jachai Polite Florida
DE/EDGE Anthony Nelson Iowa
DT Dre'Mont Jones OSU
DT Khalen Saunders Western Illinois
LB/MONEY Sione Takitaki BYU
S/DB Nasir Adderley Delaware
S Taylor Rapp Washington
S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Florida
QB Jordan Ta'amu Ole Miss
RB Darrell Henderson Memphis
RB Benny Snell Jr. Kentucky
WR N'keal Harry ASU
WR Deebo Samuel South Carolina
TE Zach Gentry Michigan
OT/OL Chuma Edoga USC
I would personally love to see us draft a S/DB like Nasir Adderley or Taylor Rapp, or a WR like N'keal Harry in the 2nd RD. But I think w/the issues at DT - Rankins injury and David O's weed situation - a dude like DT Dre'Mont Jones would be awesome in RD 2, too. Plus the guy is a Buckeye, and lord knows how much we love guys from OSU. Notable snubs are WR John Ursua Hawaii and LB Troy Dye Oregon.

Takitaki from BYU is an exciting guy to watch. I just wonder if he is big enough to play.

His is exciting! And I think he's plenty big enough. That tweener size/speed hybrid LB/SS/MONEY is becoming the norm in the college ranks and is slowly trickling into the bigs. Sione is like Telvin Smith's, Darius Leonard's and Kwon Alexander's of the league. Undersized, but fast and explosive And given his play style and 6'2 225-230ish frame, I personally liken him a lot to Deion Jones. I know he has long way to go, but watch this guy play! If we got him in the 4th, or moved up into the 3rd, or landed him some how, WOW! We'd 100% have one of the fastest, most athletic and rangy group of LBs in the league.

TE Zach Gentry Michigan

Ya, I'm a big fan of Gentry, too. I think he's a big time sleeper. He came into his own this year and a made bunch of huge plays for Mich and Shea Patterson. This dude has some major upside that's begging for a coach like Sean Payton to unleash and harness. In my opinion, coming into the league, Jimmy Graham didnt have half of what Zach Gentry has now. And look what Payton did w/him. Gentry's athletic traits are very similar to Jimmy's. I think Gentry has better hands and is clearly a better blocker, though.
