That's because, meily, if we're both being honest, nearly 2 1/2 years later after Colin Kaepernik started his controversial kneeling for the national anthem to protest against police brutality, and Eric Reid decided to play the follow the leader, it's because the huge controversy Kaepernick started still has a huge undercurrent of tension going on in public collective consciousness on a much wider scope and level then just sports. And some people, regardless of whatever aisle they sit on on these issues, still believe Kaepernik is being blackballed by NFL GMS of teams into not getting a shot as a starting QB or a backup on another NFL team. Honestly, despite his relatively decent stats in 2016 with SF, Kaepernicks career had hit a huge snag by 2016 and frankly, his success in SF has a lot to do with the offensive system Jim Harbaugh put in place and Mike Singletary had assembled before he was drafted. Kaepernik was viewed as a QB who's career had stalled or become stagnant after Harbaugh departed and most of Niners talent either retired or left via free agency.

More then likely, if Kaepernik hadn't done his national anthem protests, it's highly likely that he'd still be on a NFL roster in 2019. Certainly not with the Niners, his production, particularly in the W column, had made him expendable. Maybe he could've caught on with some team like Baltimore or somewhere else that might've redeveloped his game and his mechanics and perhaps he once again be a starting-level NFL QB. Most NFL fans need to realize that by 2016 a lot of NFL defenses had begun to figure him out and neutralize his potency as a dual-threat QB weapon. He was still capable of putting up some good stats but his arm, throwing motion mechanics was a tad archaic, he had great speed as a scrambler, but he wasn't this Michael Vick all-powerful speedster that could make Barry Sanders-as QB type moves. He didn't exactly have Cam Newton's size, arm, or a great supporting cast for that matter to help him out.

Sorry for the long, perhaps cumbersome essay of a reply in the above-original post. I was simply trying to state in polite, statistical language to meily the sort of remaining undercurrent of tension that still exists in the NFL and world of American sports, media, and society nearly 2 1/2 years after Colin Kaepernick began his national anthem protests and how Eric Reid became one of his biggest supporters, then and now. I didn't mean to write all that or even this to make your eyes bleed ulcers by the time you finished reading my posts.

And Reid is right with every word he spoke. The only reason he is back is because the league feels he can actually contribute on a high level. If he couldn’t he would be ostracized like kap is.

The only players on ANY team are the ones that can contribute on a high level. Teams dont give out charity contracts or waste roster spots

I believe Reid was ranked #55 at his position by PFF. This money doesn't represent his on field worth at all imo.

Some commentators believe that this is hush money in relation to the lawsuit filed for Kap.

Either way that's less money we're competing with.

Honestly, Eric Reid is an average S & the Panthers are an average team, so this all makes sense for them. & for what it’s worth, Coleman “WAS” a very good S. That dude was coming of an injury plagued 17 season, was coming into a whole new scheme, & flat out had better/younger guys ahead of him. I dont hate Coleman or the move. It is, what it is. Coleman’s MO has always been splash plays. He simply wasnt in the games enough to do anything this year. & for how good he was in coverage, he had always been an average run defender & tackler at best. The positive from Coleman’s signing was the evolution of Bell’s play. Whether Coleman took him under his wing, or Vonn upping his game for fear of losing reps to the vet, or what ever, i believe Coleman’s presence helped Vonn get better.

But on that note, i wouldnet mind seeing us draft a Safety like Nassir Adderly or Taylor Rapp. Those dudes are my favorite players in this years draft.
