I might finally get a Mountaineer on my Saints. It's been awhile.
Qb Will Grier, wr David Sills, lb David Long, OT Yodny Cajuste, wr Gary Jennings and te Trevon Wesco.
My gut is telling me we get one, if not 2.
Adding Wesco late would be a smart move.
I won't get many responses because most already have their favorites and won't budge.
Writing is on the wall, the position we draft in round 2 is up in the air. We've put ourselves in a position to draft bpa no matter what. If that's a qb, so be it.

I just posted this in a mock draft thread, but I've started to love the idea of drafting Will Grier with this pick. The Saints have shown a lot of interest in Grier.

He may not be quite as pro-ready, but he is eerily similar to Baker Mayfield. From playing style to measurables, they're very similar. They also both have the QB intangibles you can't teach: being a strong competitor and leader. Grier had a great showing in the SEC for Florida as a freshman before he tested positive for an illegal, over-the-counter supplement. Since then, he transferred to West Virginia and has had a solid career. He had a completion rate of 67%, 37 TDs, and 8 INT as a senior. Grier and Mayfield's measurables are nearly identical with Grier being taller (the biggest knock against Mayfield), having longer arms, and more athletic:

You stick David Stills in the slot and you would never lose to the Rams ever again. Everytime they would go down the field with Cupp, I would turn right around and burn them with my own version of him in Stills.

Gary is very good. A clutch player when you need to move the sticks. Highly underrated imo. Could prove to be better than Sills.
Sills is still growing as a wr so his ceiling may be higher. Sills has to get stronger when jammed.

Needs to get more consistent catching the football as well. I like his upside and skill set for this offense. Just a matter of value and what else is on the board.

Not a big fan of using our one and only pick in the top 75 on a QB. Especially one in the later half of the 75.

That strategy my friends is what gets GMs fired. Just look back the past 20 years. The Succession rate of a QB that's drafted closer to the 3rd round is extremely low. You would have a better chance finding a needle in a haystack blindfolded.

Getting away from the logistics, I'm not a huge fan of Will Grier. While hes had some clutch moments in his career, he has been inconsistent at times l, and has had questionable decision making. He has also had problems with his accuracy as well at times. If hes there at 62, theres a pretty good reason for it.

I understand that we need to start preparing for life after brees. This year is not the year to do that. Especially with the draft capital we have. Besides, at the least we have a pretty good bridge QB in Teddy Bridgewater. Who as well could be the answer for life after Brees. I'm pretty sure that's the idea as well. Sean loves him and wants him here.

Saints like a few of the WVU prospects, most notably Grier and Sills. Sills is someone they think highly of. But I mentioned in another thread this week that Sean really likes Grier—that is not just some smokescreen in other words. He likes his accuracy, moxie and toughness. While I think the Saints definitely want to add a pass catcher early and have needs at OL, DT and possibly DB, Grier would not surprise me. I think ideally Grier is someone they would like to target later if he were to fall into, say, round 4. And in a perfect world he would but we don’t live in perfect worlds and the Saints fully recognize this. Plus, again, Sean likes the player.

Grier not only had a weird throwing motion but the ball flies through the air in a strange way. It’s slow but it gets there. Like he threw a frisbee.
