Wilson gets Mega Deal (1 Viewer)

Hmmm. To me Wilson is a very good quarterback. Not really elite but you can build a team around him. And he comes off as a down to earth good guy that seems likeable. But I know within the team and some of his teammates, current and former, don't like him as much. Seems like some are jealous of his relationship with coaches and the front office. I wonder, with his new mega deal, will this affect his relationship with his teammates even more. And that if he doesn't lead the team back to a winning culture that all blame will be solely on Wilson, even when it fair or unfair.

That’s what elite QBs will be getting. I mean what do you think Mahomes will get if Wilson got that much?
Yea but look at our roster. Still need to pay our premier players. If we had drafted Mahomes, yeah I get it. But Wilson was not drafted by us. I am not big on paying a free agent quarterback that much money to come here. Reasonable is fine but 140 million for 4 years? If Wilson was drafted by us then I wouldn't be too concern because he has establish his role already.

I’d be curious to know how much the $60 million contract that Brees signed with us in 2006 compares to the $140 million that Wilson just signed in proportion to the 2006 and 2019 salary caps. What % was the hit for each?

I was thinking the same thing while I was posting some comments on this thread. I don't know the number to adjust base on the market at that time. What I posted may contradict my thoughts when we signed Brees. However Brees deal seems to be a more cautious but good deal for both side. Not many teams was rushing to sign Brees at the time. But what should be a measuring stick would be how much a team is paying their other franchise quarterback back in 2006. But man how time has changed....10 million per year for the a GOAT at the time. WOW.

That's how the NFL works.
People need to get used to the idea that the next QB is going to be either a rookie on his rookie deal or a cheap game manager.
That's how you win super bowls.

The intent with Mahomes is that they win a super bowl before they have to pay him. Once they pay him, it's time to reload the roster with draft picks and let the stars move on.

We've done an excellent job of building a great young (cheap) team that we can insert either a draft pick qb or medium priced free agent qb in Drew's place to put ourselves in a position to go after another one.
