Stranger Things Season 3 trailer... and S4 teaser trailer (1 Viewer)

I just finished the season. The infiltrate the Russian Mall compound storyline was a big misstep. It was awful. Seriously, air ducts and elevators and keystone cop Russians? I could go into more detail but I'm lazy. Erica may be one of the most annoying characters in the history of television. The other two storylines were fine. Overall I enjoyed the season, but was surprised at how bad parts of it were.
that is part of the nostalgia - 80s action movies were chockfull of that stuff - the difference in Stranger Things is the go to great lengths to seed the 'eye rolling' elements into earlier scenes - so when hopper/joyce or steve arrives just in time, it's already been planted as plausible

thing i love most about the show is how it so eloquently walks that knife's edge of humor & horror. steve drugged interrogation scene intercut with the mindflayer cabin attack is beautiful --
even taking the time to sing the entirety of never ending story while literally everyone is waiting for the code - it could so easily slip into unintended farce if just a few moments weren't crafted or the performances weren't pitched correctly

I got what they were going for and I should have mentioned that. It just didn't work for me. Erica (not the actress' fault) really grated on my nerves. I thought the Steve and Robin relationship was sweet. The lesbian reveal was nice also.

Edit: Will felt like an afterthought this season. I didn't care for that either.

yeah i think you're supposed to be super annoyed by her - urkel meets the brother from 16 candles with a bit of drew barrymore from ET

and i think they earned the will stuff
even in season 1 when his dad called him gay and mike was in a different social class than the other 3 - and then of course will's in the upside down for each season and his friends get on with their lives - he's the outsider

I think you give the Duffer brothers a bit too much credit for cleverness this season.

But overall it has all been a very pleasant experience.

It takes me back to growing up in the eighties and the awkwardness of the transition from childhood to early teenage years. The music itself sends me back.

I think Will feeling like an afterthought is kind of the point. He's arrested developmentally at the point before he went to the upside down. Everyone else has moved on and is getting older and have girlfriends and what not, and he isn't part of that. He's isolated from his peers and really just wants to cling to the last thing he had in his life that felt safe and normal, and he struggles because he can't go back. He's absolutely the odd man out. Even with Dustin largely being separated from the core group for most of the season, he'd still moved on via having a Neverending story loving, Wizard of Earthsea reading girlfriend and fighting commies with Steve and Robin. Will is kind of floating along unmoored while everyone else around him moves on.

2 episodes down and 5 more to go for me. Hope they do 2 more seasons like I've heard they were going to. I honestly never want this show to end

I loved season 3 but I think one more season should do. How many times can you fight the same monster over and over? I'm thinking one more season then maybe five or six years down the road you bring these characters back in college in the early 90's that could be fun.

the speculation that intrigues me is that Hopper is in the upside down and el will have to go and save him - we spent hardly any time in the upside down this season, maybe bc we'll be there a lot next season

correct.
