Her assertion smacks of a response to someone asking her about backlash for her being cast as a transgender. May come as a surprise to you, but "any person" != "any race".

I sometimes wish the PC genie could be put back in the bottle. And secondly, the term racist is worn out. It now seems to be someone was rude or mistaken to be rude so they have to be picking on me due to my skin color.

True story. Recently this very nice family was over for dinner. They are South African caucasian (I guess that is PC) with their English accent. Although being in the States for almost 20 years they talk as if they moved here last week. Anyway, the lady worked at a local Trek store and said some customers didn’t take her seriously when she spoke. She called it racism. Is that really racism I asked? I still don’t know. I think I offended them when I asked if it might be just some customers are rude. They haven’t been back over to visit.

I do not agree with this take. The controversy is simply because the "mythical character" was white in the animated version that children grew up on. It would be the same as if the live-action version of Tiana from "The Princess and the Frog" were cast as a white girl. Would that not be confusion to the children who are used to the animated version? Would you not expect an outcry in that situation as well?

you're going to have to come up with a MUCH better example, which you won't be able to bc it will be the same difficulty with Mulan/white or Jasmine/white or Pocahontas/white
those are cultural roles and the race/nationality is central to the character
there is no mermaid race

Thor and Loki are mythological characters. Would you not say that they have a certain cultural background to them? The cultural background of the mermaid in the Little Mermaid is Caucasian and European, not only because of the Disney rendition, but also because of the original story.

and here's the deal - since marvel is operating an entertainment franchise they can be like 'nah, these aren't norse gods, they are aliens'

admittedly it would be a bit more difficult for the Vikings tv series to pull that off

but Ariel is WAY different than HC Andersen's take
if Disney chooses to deviate from the more torturous aspects of the story (which are central to the mythology), then there's not much of a 'but he's scandanavian' leg to stand on

I was crushed when Thanos killed Heimdall in Infinity War. Since Loki technically makes a return appearance in Endgame, then could we see Heimdall return? One can hope.

Marvel got a good bit of backlash over the casting of Heimdall at first as well. Fortunately for them, Idris Elba was so good that he made people forget all about that.

You have to admit that Heimdall stuck out like a sore thumb though in those movies being the ONLY black character from Asgard until Thor Ragnarok when they introduced a black Valkyrie (the name of the actress escapes me).
