Scarlett Johansson standing up for herself for the roles she has played. (1 Viewer)

Marvel got a good bit of backlash over the casting of Heimdall at first as well. Fortunately for them, Idris Elba was so good that he made people forget all about that.
which supports the idea that these reactions about casting are knee jerk responses and not actual valid concerns about ruining a story, yeah?

You have to admit that Heimdall stuck out like a sore thumb though in those movies being the ONLY black character from Asgard until Thor Ragnarok when they introduced a black Valkyrie (the name of the actress escapes me).
it might not surprise you to that my media consumption is fairly diverse so non-traditional casting s don't stick out for me

Thor and Loki are mythological characters. Would you not say that they have a certain cultural background to them? The cultural background of the mermaid in the Little Mermaid is Caucasian and European, not only because of the Disney rendition, but also because of the original story.

Marvel already made Heimdall not-Norse by casting Idris Elba to play the role.

Netflix has a BBC miniseries, "Troy, Fall of a City", which portrays Achilles as a gay African-Hellenic. They gay part I can see... the saved-head African-Hellenic, not so much :hihi: .

Already responded to that point on Heimdall.

No it’s not knee jerk. I wouldn’t want to see a white actor playing a traditionally black role, just as I wouldn’t want to see a black actor playing a traditionally white role. It has more to do (for me) with staying as true to the source material as possible. I would have thought you understood my POV on that from our GoT discussions lol. I always point to the source material. They just lucked out with Elba because he’s such a phenomenal actor.

Are white people underrepresented in entertainment media? (Or straight people or able-bodied, et al)

No, I don't think so (obviously), but I do think that's slowly changing. FWIW, I never gave it much thought that Heimdall was/is black in the movie. In fact, I thought his appearance actually added to the mystery and power of his character, which I liked a lot. I don't often get emotional at movies, but I had a visceral reaction when Thanos stabbed him in the heart. I just loved his role as gatekeeper of Asgard and I thought he played the role very well.

There's no need to go back and quote your posts. People can read here.

Scarlett was speaking about "art" and I found nothing wrong with what she said. Yeah, maybe she was "naive as ****" by speaking her mind in the alt-PC age (thanks SystemShock). I thought it was a shame she felt compelled to go back and explain herself because of people that hide behind the illusion of righteousness, but in reality are basically cyber bullies.

I know your argument comes from a good place.

But I think you might be "naive as ****" if you don't see the direction where all this is going.

This is a perfect example of cyber bullying disguised as righteousness .

Amber Heard is clearly not a racist if anyone bothered to do some research.

She was giving an honest warning about an ICE checkpoint, trying to help people.

But no. Clearly no housekeepers, nannies, or landscapers in California are illegals.

She was torn apart.
