I want a Boegli so badly

I sometimes look at the nicer watches out there. They can be intriguing to look at, but I usually find something else to spend money on.

I have these two . . .

Before these, I was strictly timex man.
Well, the black face watch didn't work out. I sent it back a few days after getting it because it was too small. Got this one instead. Replaced the band with a black nylon strap.

This month, as the world revels in the memory of a giant leap for mankind, I’m reminded of a photograph. It is instantly recognizable: Buzz Aldrin sits inside a capsule, insouciantly staring into the camera. His hair is closely cropped, his left arm is raised across his chest, and on his wrist is a watch, with a black strap, black dial, and white hands.

That watch, the Omega Speedmaster Professional—also known as the Moonwatch—retails on the Omega website for $5,350, and has the words the first watch worn on the moon engraved on the case back, along with the reminder that the Speedmaster is flight-qualified by nasa for all manned space missions. It is the only watch to have earned that privilege.

A few thousand dollars for a watch might seem like a lot of money—and it is—but wearing a NASA-approved Speedmaster is the closest many of us will ever come to actual space travel, which is surely part of the reason for its enduring appeal. The model arguably helped Omega survive the “quartz crisis” of the 1980s—a disaster discussed by watch aficionados with the same intensity southern farmers might the boll weevil infestation of the 1920s—when quartz crystal-powered watches brought inexpensive timekeeping to the masses, effectively killing many storied Swiss watch companies.

I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Speedy Pro for a few years now, but I haven’t, because it’s a lot of money for a watch, and i’m afraid i’d change my mind after i bought it.. i love the history, but it doesnt have a lot of water resilience .. if i spend that much on a watch , i want it to be a ‘lifetime watch’, that i can wear anywhere and not worry about it getting wet.. it’s worth noting also that you can get it at a significant discount on the grey market, such as Amazon, but without the full manufacturer’s warranty.

i bought a suunto core a month or so ago. hasn't left my wrist. seriously considering selling my others except for 2 of my jaeger le-coultres.

also, i am a huge fan maratac (not sure if mentioned or not). they make high quality government spec watches and produce 50-100 (maybe more) additional to their contracted orders.

(countycomm is the official, at least the prominent, resale for civilian watches, massdrop.com / drop.com has started to contract their own, not sure when they will sell though but they have started with the nato straps/zulu )

they sell out very fast though.

for example, their diver:

i completely regret selling my pilot, similar to this

my brother bought one a few months ago. he went with the non-classic speedmaster, the automatic. nice watch. i just prefer the original manual wind.

What do you watchficionados (looking at you, zeetes) think about Slow watches?

Something very zen about the single hand. Also makes time appear to last longer for us autumn chickens.

keep an eye on drop.com, they frequently have them on "mass orders"

Sweet Seiko Black Monster. These watches are tanks for the money and this one would look great in any scenario.
