(Mods - I looked around and couldn't find a post on this. There's a poll, but as one person mentioned, they were unfamiliar with the law suit. If this should be merged in the Poll thread, please feel free to do that. Thx very much)

A lawsuit against the NFL over the outcome of the NFC championship game between the Rams and Saints has been allowed to continue by a judge.

A lawsuit was filed after the Saints were screwed out of a Super Bowl appearance due to a blown pass interference no-call. It wasn’t just a bad no-call, but it honestly might be remembered as the worst no-call by officials in the history of sports. Now, fans are one step closer to getting payback as attorney Antonio LeMon seeks $75,000 in damage

I know Goodel's lawyers would basically have Roger prepped to say nothing of any meaning, but I'd like to see Goodell squirm against a good prosecuting attorney. Actually, I would love that.

Just a side point — I don’t think you need to apologize for a redundant post. People get way to sensitive about that around here.

Nobody forces anyone to open a thread. If you have seen the topic before, just move on! Repeat threads do split up conversations that ought to be merged, sometimes, but folks make mistakes. Better too many threads than too few.

Can't they depose the "super duper all star cream of the crop" officiating team also? Now THAT would be interesting! Oh, to be a little fly sitting in the room for that. ?

Now that would rock! Can you imagine how much time the NFL would spend prepping those 7 officials on exactly what to say and not say. Even then, a good trial lawyer could flush out some interesting info from those 7.

If they’re NFL employees (I’m pretty sure they are) and the court has ruled on jurisdiction over the league, the plaintiffs can depose the officials.

I really only need to know one thing. The ref was going to pull his flag...but then he stopped. I'd love to hear him explain why.

I thought we already knew why - the other ref (side judge Cavaletto) ran up and waived him off, saying "bang bang!" referring to a bang-bang play where the contact and ball arrival are so close together that it's basically impossible to make a call.

(Of course he was totally wrong about that).

I do believe, one on one, someone would crack just enough to get the jackhammer in, then ka-boom! Ooh, G'dell would have a lot of "splainin" to do! :facts3: ???

I thought the referees were a completely separate entity from the NFL. Like sub-contractors or something like that. I have a vague recollection of reading that back when the refs went on strike and we had the incident with a guy from New Orleans being one of the replacement refs because he had pictures of himself on facebook in Saints gear and he was replaced on the crew that was going to be officiating a pre-season game because of it.

I could definitely be mistaken though. That was quite a few years ago.

Hey Inside - i may be off on this, but think it's close. About 80% plus of the refs are contractors. About 15% to 20% are NFL employees.

Why only $75k and why for? Is this real, because I thought the link said the Times Picayune trolled everyone?

How about the refs - can they be questioned!

Sure would have been nice to have the refs give a question and answer media appearance - instead of all of them hiding under their desks with Roger.
