Marvel Studios announces Phase 4 movies (2 Viewers)

Pretty weak offering from Marvel in every way. I mean, i expected a "let down" after phase 3, nothing could live up the high point of IW/Endgame. But this...this is a train wreak even I didn't see comping.

Black Widow...a decent move, but should have came out 2 or 3 years ago, pretty pointless now that BW is dead.

Eternals...basically the 2nd In-Humans attempt. Would be good to introduced more of the cosmic elements of the Marvel universe as long as it doesn't turn into a big social diversity woke snooze fest.

Shang-Chi - translation - we're sorry we screwed up Iron Fist and the Mandarin, we'll give it a second go around.

All the disney plus streaming shows, all are b-list characters that have little to relevance in the MCU going forward. Nothing put a ploy to get people to pay for disney plus subscriptions. the one saving grace is they be able to tell a better story in 10 hours then in 2.5 hours. Question is, will anyone care?

Doctor Strange 2 - the one movie in all this mess i'm actual interested in seeing...2 and half years from now...joy.

Thor 4 - at first we were excited because no one really expected another Thor movie, then we realized it was nothing more then a virtue signalling transtion movie to retire Chris Hemsworth for gay Valkaire and feminized goddes of Thunder, from a recent comic story that was pretty soundly rejected.

And you thought the Star Wars franchise fell from grace overnight.

Looking ahead to phase 5, Blade (which has already been done but we need more diverse characters), Mutants (aka X-People), and maybe an Fantastic Four movie, that if the current trend will likely be some type of Ultimate or multiverse version that has no relation to the classic John Byrne era masterpiece.

The best thing I saw about this was someone tweeted out "Well hell, where are the superhero movies with the white males?". And the response was "In the last 80 years and 30 movies".

I'm a white middle aged man. I got Captain America, 3 movies worth, 3 Iron Mans, 2 ant-mans, Doctor Strange, 2 spidermans, Guardians of the Galaxy x2, Incredible Hulk, JUST in the marvel phases. It's kind of petty to be mad about someone else getting a turn. Fine by me. Falcon is in my top 5 favorite characters anyways, so I am hyped for that TV show.

Nope it’s just more white male erasure
I might need a parade or something

Well...all of that is like, your opinion man.

I completely disagree with your comments. Marvel has earned the right to take some risks and branch out into other directions. They really don't have anything to prove to me considering all they've done in the last 10+ years.

I love the diversity. As another poster so clearly laid out, we've had a ton of white super hero movies. Let's celebrate a little variety. I think Marvel will handle it well. They've earned a wide berth from me, and I'll go see the movies I can.

Oh, I'm not convinced BW is dead. I happen to think she's trapped in the soul stone and someone my find a way to get her back. I might be wrong, but in Marvel, any character can be revived if they really want to.

Disagreement is the foundation of discussion, it used to be a time when it was considered a bad thing for everyone to think the same.

What matters is good stories. They made the point of inject gender and sexual preference issues into their announcements. Make a character a woman doesn't make anything good. Making a character gay doesn't make it good. Make a good story that tells a compelling drama that your audience can resonate with is the basis of good storytelling.

But we don't live in a world anymore where we want to treat people the same or as equals and let the merits of the actions and character determine the their value. So get in line with the property line of thought, or the insults will roll.

and it rolls every time like clock work, at least its over inconsequential works of fiction that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

so go head, call me names, pitch your insults, its all so predictable.

In the mean time, a breather from the Avengers makes a lot of sense, if they choose to build towards Secret Wars in the future, that will take years of setup. You'll need the FF, X-Persons, a new avengers team (originals will be to old) and a bigger pool of villains. The infinity saga took 3 phases and 21 movies to setup, so understandably building up to another big event till likely take another decade. No need to rush.

Lmao, you're talking about what matters is a good story before the story has been written. Let's see how well they tell the stories before getting all your stuff in a bunch.

No name calling or insults from me. I just happen to disagree with your take.

Actually, just saw a short interview with Feige where he said that Blade wouldn't be part of Phase 4 and that as it stands now the entire Phase 4 lineup was revealed last night. Which means Phase 4 looks to be pretty short (pretty much just 2020 and 2021). Interesting. Might be kind of a palette cleanser before a bigger Phase 5 that could conceivably introduce Fantastic Four and X Men.
After looking at this again, I think Phase 4 could be substantial assuming the Disney+ series tie in with the movies. Unlike the Netflix series, I think Feige is going to have a hand in them and we might see someone crossover, although probably not as much as we would all like. Better yet, this just gets us to Phase 5 (F4 + X-Men) in two years instead of four.

I'm really excited about this - and it's what a lot of talk is about around here because it features, Simu Liu an actor from next door and someone who people have fallen in love with as the lead in "Kim's Convenience" - a huge sitcom here in Toronto, based on a stage play that rose to prominence out of nowhere.

Dude, you really are Canadian now, huh?

lol

How do you know these won't be good stories? You say things like "Make a character a woman doesn't make anything good. Making a character gay doesn't make it good." But nobody is saying this. And it's not like making a character a white male makes it good anyway.

The point is that Marvel seems to have a good thing going as far as telling good stories, and there are many good stories that can be told about characters of different cultures, genders, and races. Why not use these good storytellers to give those characters and stories a chance?

Your posts have come off as very dismissive and basically saying that these stories WON'T be good specifically BECAUSE the characters are of different races and genders, etc.

People aren't calling you names and picking on you "just got having a different opinion" (that has gotten so tired recently imo).

Yeh, i really did mean to direct that at you, my apologies for that.

I do agree on letting each show stand on its merits, and who knows, maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised a time or two. Good example of that is Captain Marvel, they went out of their way to make a big social issue out of it. It wasn't terrible, worst thing about was it just a mediocre story told in a mediocre way. At least the character Danvers was more likable then the ditsy actress that played her.

you really don't see the irony in your own post, do you?

people disagreed with you, get over it

they said on the convention stage when the accounted the movies.

Their good stories have revolved around many of the classic story arcs from the 70's, 80's and 90's, most of which i have copies of sitting in my garage. and the truth is there are plenty of diversity. You don't need a lady Thor when you have Valkyrie.
Relationships are not the plot foundation for any of the movies, so who sleeps with who is really irrelevant. Super hero stories are plot driven stories. Finally, you make diversity normal by making it no big deal. Spiderman homecoming and far from home do this very well. It has the most ethnically diverse cast with the most changes in characters, and no one cares, because the characters are well written with good performances by the actors that fit the story and location of a public school in new york city.

Your posts have come off as very dismissive and basically saying that these stories WON'T be good specifically BECAUSE the characters are of different races and genders, etc.
dismissive? yeh, i'm tired of politics being forced into entertainment with a heavy hand with the "accept it or your a racist/sexist" response. I didn't say the movies wouldn't be good because of race or gender, i said, race and gender in and of itself isn't going to make the movie good. No one will who has what skin color or what girl kisses another girl if the movie is like the Fox Fan4stic movie that bombed.

People aren't calling you names and picking on you "just got having a different opinion" (that has gotten so tired recently imo).

i would say calling someone a bigot is calling names, but i don't really care. I just don't respect people who do it.
