The book series by Robert Jordan will be getting it's own series on Amazon. They have already cast Rosamund Pike (academy award winner for Gone Girl) as Moiraine. Anybody familiar with the books have any predictions or wishlist for the rest of the main characters? I've just started delving into the books, so I'm not sure which way I would go with most of them yet. I will say that maybe Mads Mikkelsen might do well as Lan.

It's a sure bet that there will only be one, maybe two more names I recognize. The rest will hopefully be talented unknowns.

That’s definitely the way to go. Just like GoT did with Sean Bean and Mark Addy. Definitely have to have big names to draw some folks in.

I just want it to be good.... more often than not it seems for every "Game of Thrones" you get a half dozen "Swords of Shannara" or "Legends of the Seeker" (Wizard's First Rule)

:covri:

To be fair, the Legend of the Seeker source books were terrible. They had an uphill struggle to make something decent.

Just judging by the casting of Rosamund Pike alone, it looks like they are taking the production seriously.

the books were unnecessarily tedious - but in it was enough material to make a more compelling series. I actually though, while reading (slogging through) it, that it would be more interesting a story on screen than on the page.

Man I hope that The Way of Kings eventually gets a live action film. But it would be great if it comes a decade or so from now when/if the novel is finished. That way it won't run into the problems encountered by GoT when the source material ended.

I was enthralled with these books. Until Book 8. That was the book that felt like it took 800 pages to describe someone walking 1 mile.

Still excited about this though. Perrin was always my favorite.

So far I think that the cast looks fine. I'm hoping that the show gets the budget that it deserves

I've read the first few books. It's good enough to proceed. It was very well written and I think that there are enough characters that I connect with to make it worth while. 14-15 books is definitely an endeavor. I've read the three available Stormlight series by Brandon Sanderson, and they are nothing short of amazing. It truly has the chance to be the greatest fantasy series ever. Sanderson is definitely a student of the game...and he hopes to avoid the pitfalls of his predecessors, namely Tolkien, Martin, and Jordan.

I had picked up the Mistborn series, because I'd liked Sanderson's work.

When I mentioned that, a student was adamant that I read Stormlight Archives. This is a student who reads a ton and I really value his opinion. I was already excited to read it, but that's gone up a notch after reading your post

I also recommend the Stormlight Archives.

I read the first 2 Stormlight books and thought they were amazing. Just exquisite world building. I have been unable to plod through the 3rd book over the course of a year
