Sorry if already posted. Saw this on the MSN news feed. Talk about your bulletin board material. I hope and pray Drew makes Gagnon eat this.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees: I include him with great reluctance, but few quarterbacks have ever succeeded beyond 40. Sure, Tom Brady did, but he’s a hell of an anomaly. Brees will soon become only the second player ever to attempt 10,000 career passes, and there are signs he’s slowing down. In his last four games of the 2018 regular season, he threw just three touchdown passes to three interceptions and posted an ugly 84.7 passer rating.

Honestly one year they may be right. And best believe they will be patting themselves on the back for it even though they’ve been calling for it for 5 years now, and he just keeps shattering records.

The things Brees has going for him are that he takes care of his body in a way that’s unique even by NFL standards. Also, since arm strength was never his strongest suit, his decline will be slower than someone who relied on their arm strength.

We all look at how guys like Favre and Manning fell off suddenly. But Favre was a slinger. He relied on his arm strength to make plays. And Manning wasn’t an all world athlete like Drew is.

There is no precedent set for Brees. He will continue to be great for as long as he wants to be.

That first throw in the NFC Championship did make me wonder. In the Colston era, Drew would have nailed that throw. Instead, it was 10 yards short for the INT. We've kicked the whole arm strength and age issue around in the office a lot. My co-workers are pretty much 50/50 on the, but one of them is a Raiders fan and the another one is a 49ers fan, so their votes don't count!

Edit: Yeah, it was the Eagles game. Brain fart.

But I keep coming back to the fact that when Drew regresses he's going to go from the greatest passer in history to simply a good QB. Let's say that Drew is 60% of the player he was last season, that's still a pretty darn good QB. That's still a QB we can win a Super Bowl with.

It would be one thing if Drew had a long injury history and was propped up by leg braces like Marino was late in his career, but he's stayed clean, knock on wood. And he's not like Manning who was playing with a neck that could no longer support his head. For his age Drew Brees is probably in the best shape of any QB in the league. He'll be able to roll out of bed and throw back shoulder passes when he's 60.

Brees is not the kind of QB that will simply fall off a cliff and turn into a deer in headlights. He's easily a top 3 QB of all time when talking about his mental abilities playing the game. Like Brady, you'll see a gradual drop off until he decides to retire. Brees could be in his late 40s and still go complete passes in the NFL because he doesn't rely on athleticism. It's just a matter of how prolific he'd be compared to what he is now.

Not sure what play you are talking about. Brees threw an INT in OT after getting creamed. Maybe that's what you mean?

He’s likely talking about the first play from scrimmage in the divisional round against the eagles. It definitely wasn’t 10 yards short though. Maybe 3. He hesitated .25 seconds too long

Right. I honestly think he may have been surprised he was that open. Just not trusting what he saw moreso than any sort of physical thing.
