Since it seems like there's always some sort of story popping up about freakish animals, I decided to start a thread dedicated to collecting this nightmare fuel. Exhibit A:

When Snakes on a Plane was in the theater, we went to see it at Alamo Draft House. Before the movie they had professional snake handlers do some "tricks".
One guys was kissing cobras on the head and the other guy had multiple rattlesnake tails in his mouth (the rest of the snake was attached and alive).

Always nice to have a theater that goes the extra mile.

I can hack spiders, I'm pretty ok with snakes, but ticks?

Ye gods no. Keep those things the *hell* away from me.

In the Netherlands, there have been reported sightings of Hyalomma marginatum, a kind of Andre the Giant of ticks that are twice the size of a more common species, Ixodes ricinus(sheep tick). Worse, they don’t sit idle. If they want to bite you, they’ll run after you.

The non-native species has been spotted twice in the past month. One was in Drenthe, a province in the northeastern part of the country, and the other was found in Achterhoek. They measure up to 0.2 inches but can grow to 0.7 inches when engorged with the blood of their hosts. The ticks are known to hide in brush. When they spot a potential meal, they run toward it. H. marginatum can detect a victim from up to 30 feet away and track it for 10 minutes before abandoning pursuit.

These are some in my backyard just within 2 weeks. Snakes , gators, spiders, roaches. None of that bothers me. I don't do bees, wasps and the evil incarnate yellow jackets. I won't kill honey bees. I know they are much needed, but the rest can die in a hellfire.2 black racers.jpgking snake.jpg2 black racers.jpgking snake.jpgnasty moccasin.jpg
