Dak turns down offer from Cowboys, (reportedly) wants 40m a year (1 Viewer)

Yep we are going to run with the original story even though it's false.

I don't care.
Most are commenting on Dak declining $30M, not about asking for $40M. Is the part about declining $30M true? I can't tell.

I hate the cowgirls but he’s already said publicly that he’s willing to take less money so Zeke can get paid. This gotta be fake

But is it false? I don't know. Just because PFT was the one replying doesn't mean they are right. Or wrong.

What I do know is that Jane says one thing and PFT says another. Both are reputable and both are citing unnamed sources. At this point one view is as good as another.

I don't see how Dak can be tier 4 on any standard - some of those guys are really struggling and/or haven't had anywhere near the success Dak has had. Carr is a huge question mark after starting fairly strong. Mariota might lose his starting job. Darnold just got traded and who knows. Trubisky just isn't there yet and might not get there. Winston can't stay healthy.

Avg. annual pay of tier 3: $28.125M
Did Darnold get traded? I don't think so.

Even $30M/year is overpaying by about $10-15M.

This is the correct way to look at it

Tier 1 - Brady, Brees, Rodgers

Tier 2 - Ryan, Wilson, Luck, Rivers, Mahomes (need more than one year to be Tier 1 imo), Rapelisberger

Big gap

Tier 3 - Wentz, Goff, Newton, Stafford

Tier 4 - Watson, Cousins

Tier 5 - Garoppolo, Dak, Carr, Trubisky

Everyone else.

I agree with this take on the QB ratings of the NFL. Dak needs to absolutely jump on that $30 million offer before they sober up. The Tier 5 guys have a short time to either move up, or they become backup QB's in the league. And if I were able to pick from those tier 5 QB's, I'd take Garopollo or Trubisky over Dak.

Dak's potential ceiling is Alex Smith, IMHO. And I see Alex Smith as his ceiling, but that's a ceiling that he hasn't even reached yet. Dak owes his success to Zeke and the team around him. He can't carry a team, he's a game manager type QB. He really should jump on that $30 million before they come to their senses. But $40 million, forget about it.....leave that for the top tier guys. A $40 million QB should be a real difference maker. Dak is no difference maker, he's just not a very big liability. Without Zeke and that defense, Dak is Blake Bortles all over again.

Edit: Gotta excuse me, I'm getting old. It took me a while to remember who Dak reminds me of, but I finally remembered. Dak Prescott is the football equivalent of Josh Freeman. I really didn't feel right comparing him to Alex Smith, I really think he's more of a Josh Freeman (if you can remember that far back). I like that analogy better than Alex Smith. Alex was always just a little bit better than average, while I think Dak is average.
