Dak turns down offer from Cowboys, (reportedly) wants 40m a year (2 Viewers)

What does $30M per year mean?

5 year contract for a total of $150M? Average of 30M per year.

Or, a 1 year extension for $30M in new money (30 in that year), and add it to the 2M you owe him for this season, and he has a 2 year, $32M contract....16M per year on the average.

Or a 3 year extension for $90M (30M per year in new money), for a now 4 year deal for $92M (23M/year average.)

Same goes for $40M, even though that is allegedly.. alleged. lol.

Reading through this thread, I can tell alot of people haven't watched Dak play much. Too many people here actually think he is worth 30 mil. The dude is basically a more level headed Cam Newton without elite athleticism. Before Cooper got there he was looking like the worst starting QB in the league. He's still the same guy, just got an elite WR now.

My friends that are Cowboys fans were dreading the idea of paying him $30 mil a year before all this. They firmly believe paying him elite QB money will ruin them and after seeing what Cooper and Zeke want also, there's no doubt it will.

I'd tell Prescott to take his market value and shove it. He can sit out and even if they bomb this year, they can have pick of the litter on whatever QB they want in the 2020 Draft and that QB could likely average 3600 yards, 22 TD's, and a 66% completion percentage.

He's not the cog that keeps that engine running, it's Zeke and that OL. In his rookie season, the Cowboys offense was 5th in points. In 2017 they fell to 14th. Last year they were 22nd.

With Prescott at QB, the Cowboys are 0-7 in games where Elliott has less than 75 yards rushing (0-8 including their playoff loss against the Rams last year). Conversely, they are 28-6 when he gains 75 yards or more.

Prescott is nothing but a game manager.
I told my bestie at work who has the misfortune of being a Cowboys fan. I have good news for ya and bad news. Good news Dak was 8 of 10 for 20 yards. Bad news the Cowboys lost. He was downtrodden I said got ya. He said well if it was real at least his passing percentage improved.

I don't see how Dak can be tier 4 on any standard - some of those guys are really struggling and/or haven't had anywhere near the success Dak has had. Carr is a huge question mark after starting fairly strong. Mariota might lose his starting job. Darnold (edit) who knows. Trubisky just isn't there yet and might not get there. Winston can't stay healthy.

Avg. annual pay of tier 3: $28.125M

Cowboys are not willing at this time to pay arguably the most versatile RB in the league that has the power and speed. What makes you think they will be willing to bone up 30 mil/year for a QB, that in no way shape or form, is close to a top tier calber?

While the way you equate his value, there is no way Jones is that foolish to bone up 30 mil/year, long term. And I would bet, no other team is either. But good luck to Dak and his agent.

And keep up the great work on providing numbers, that do not necessarily agree with reality. The stats are one thing. But some thing and or some player, is only worth what someone will pay for same. Think of it like a piece of artwork. A Rembrandt may have a value of 30 mil., but only if the person that currently owns it, can sell it to someone else for 30 mil. If not, what real value does it have? Dak may be in that same boat.

Funny you chose the “less than 75 yards stat.” Zeke had exactly 75 when they beat us last year.

Oh man here in Dallas its crazy how much the influence the media have on their fans. There's a FEW cool cowboys fans who will sit down and have a great football conversation. Media outlets control majority of Cowboys fans, they just regurgitate everything they hear. They dont really know football but they think they do, its weird. With that being said really reallly really believe that they no longer need Zeke and Dak is going take them to bowl. because of the O-line and the addition of Randall Cobb for some reason, yes Randall Cobb. In Dallas the feeling from irrational cowboys fans 95% that Dak will be next Aaron Rodgers this year, and I mean 2014 MVP Aaron Rodgers. The environment here Dak probably going make 30 mil a year for 1 playoff win.

There multiple reports that they have offered him $30M - so that’s what makes me think they’re willing to offer it. I think people think $30M is some pie-in-the-sky number, but there are now six QBs making $30M and the cap keeps growing because league revenue growth is strong and seemingly getting stronger. If you believe in your franchise QB these days, $30M is the new threshold.

Carson Wentz signed for $32M per and his numbers really aren't that different than Dak's.

The editor of Sportrac - the site that compiles all of the player contract information - thinks Dak is going to sign for something that averages out to about $32M (and above his actual worth). We can all be arm-chair GMs and say that's crazy, but again, it's about the market, not necessarily the individual's objective worth. The owner wants to win now - not let this successful QB go and head back to the draft (where results are substantially mixed). The player has a substantial amount of leverage and $30M is no longer at the top of the market. I think it's going to be that or very close to it, if not more.
