I will not dwell on "the game that must not be named". It's been done to death on this board and I'm glad to see that most people have mourned and finally moved on.

I feel your pain (in my best Bill Clinton voice). I retreated to the EE board and rarely visited SSF during the off-season.

I've visited here more since training camp started. It's nice to see optimism coming back here and it is contagious.

I watched some of the fantasy football marathon on ESPN yesterday. We were in the top ten in all of the offensive skill positions. Brees, Kamara, Thomas, and Cook.

Our O-line is looking good. The news on McCoy is all good.

Our Defense was rated top ten by some people.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's good to be back home.

I didn't mean to imply that I had "gotten over it".

It was so painful that I would go weeks without checking SSF.

But it comes down to either we take our ball and go home or we continue to be Saints fans.

I’m still not in the same mood... :/
I want to be cautiously optimistic, but also stay with my feet on the ground.
I think this team has a number of unknowns (WRs; OL health; Murray; Davenport; Rankins absence; Front-7 depth; defense overall gelling), so I’ll wait and see how things pan out.
What would almost kill me (from an NFL fandom standpoint) is the hypotesis that this team would not perform as expected, and that our window would be closing.
In a normal year that would be disappointing, of course, but this year there’s also that awful call that lingers above everything. If the window shuts, then that call would haunt me for a much longer time.

If the Saints hadn’t won in ‘09, I’d still be mad. Angry even. But the Saints have a championship. Brees’ legacy is secure. Another championship would do more for Thomas and Kamara’s legacy and I have no doubt they’ll get a championship soon.

What I’m saying personally is that the Saints are poised for another ring. If we had won in 2018, I strongly doubt we would repeat this year, so it’s fine in a sense. But if we fail this year (and it’s entirely possible) that call would hurt again. NFL is not a league where you can hope to win every single year (or decade).

I think it took us all varying amounts of time to come back.

For me, it was free agency and the thought of what Cook could do in this offense. The moment it was reported we were bringing him in for a visit, I was back in full force.

Last year will never *not* feel like we got robbed. But if we can win a SB this year and send Drew out right, I’d feel a lot better.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl like many others. I let that game make me physically sick because I'm that vested in my team. I stayed off of this site as well because I didn't want to hear or read anything about football. Bottom line is that it hurt like hell. The game against Minnesota hurt because it was a mistake by a rookie that ultimately cost us the game. But it was our fault. I got over it and the team went even further the following year. To have the game taken out of our hands because of such an egregious non-call is where I have the problem. If the refs make the call and the Saints subsequently fumble, throws an INT or scores and still manages to lose the game, I'm fine with that. That's because the onus is on us and we would have lost the game. But to have rules in place and not utilize them for such a blatant circumstance is what makes me mad. The game was taken away from us.

I think another factor that plays into the anger of it all is that Drew is not 10 years younger as when we won our first Super Bowl. To follow up that year with the Seattle game, then San Francisco, Minnesota and now LA, the losses wear on your mental as a fan as much as they do the physical for somebody like Drew. I honestly think that if Drew were in his late 20's - early 30's, with the production that he puts out, people wouldn't be so worried about the Super Bowl "window". But I'm greedy. I want another championship. I don't want to be another Tampa Bay in the NFC South. Drew deserves another Lombardi and I don't want to see another Peyton Manning situation where he leaves from us and brings another in with another team.

I haven’t moved on. I tivoed the Vikings preseason game and still have only watched one play. I just don’t have the enthusiasm for the nfl. I love the saints and this board but hate the nfl.

Another Tampa Bay? I don’t think that’s possible. The Buccaneers window of success was barely six years with Gruden. The Saints are nearing on a decade and a half with consistent playoff appearances with a Super Bowl championship. The Saints are in the top 5 in winning percentage in the 2010s. There are college football players that have only known the Saints as Payton and Brees’ team.
The Saints are long past the possibility of being a one hit wonder like the ‘02 Bucs.

Don't kid yourself, all it would take is a slow start to this season and all the "WELL THAT'S IT, OUR BEST CHANCE WAS LAST YEAR AND ROGER STOLE IT FROM US!!" would be right back in full swing.

Let's hope we don't have to find out.
