Saints passing offense will be Thomas, Kamara and Cook (1 Viewer)

Well, I’ll give you that those will probably be the top 3 in receiving yards. Ginn should get a decent share as well. I think the rest will be spread pretty evenly among the others unless Brees is or becomes very comfortable with another target.

And not much of anything else.

Gotta hope Ginn can stay healthy to keep the defense honest and open up things in the middle of the field.

But yeah we are looking at some pretty anemic numbers from anyone else.

It's like you've forgotten Jared Cook exists.

I don't think that one drop gets Butler cut. Coaches see him every day in practice and know what he brings to the table.

As opposed to last season, when it was Thomas, Kamara, and ???

We have Cook as a third and Ginn as a fourth option now. We're fine. Who is the fifth receiver? Does it matter? Kirkwood and Smith should be at least slightly improved.

Three solid receiving options is about as good as most teams hope for. Ginn, TQS, etc won't have to do much. The issue last year was we only had two good options. You can't do the same things defensively if Cook can take over a game. A healthy Ginn alone is pretty good as your 4th option. He's not just a deep threat. He's savvy in the intermediate and is good for speed plays near the los like sweeps or quick screens in the flat. TQS should also take a step forward and seems to be working on being more versatile, but he may not even get enough touches for us to take much notice.

Just compare it to last year. We have one more viable receiving option, Ginn is healthy and TQS had a year to develop. We are in good shape when you consider that we still had one of the best offenses in the league with only two reliable options. Hopefully, the further depth improves but hopefully we rarely see them play anyway.

Wait, I thought both Tre'Quan and Teddy Ginn looked crisp in the quick game. Didn't have any drops, Tre'Quan even showed signs of maturity batting a ball that was thrown too far inside away from the DB to prevent an Interception.

Grayson had a nifty catch and run showed some speed off, even Lil Jordan had another big catch last night... don't know what we're expecting from them with AK, Mike, and Cook these guys only need to be 3-4 catch a game type guys, and stretch the field.

Thomas, Kamara and Cook and not much else??????????

So all we can expect from the passing game is one of the top WR in the NFL, the top receiving RB in the NFL, and one of the top 3 TEs in the NFL?

That’s all we got???

Why must we be so forsaken....?

And we’ve only got the greatest passer in NFL history delivering the ball?

And calling the shots, we get stuck with Sean Payton?

Not sure a lot of rivals are feeling sorry at our lack of passing options.

No shade at Kirkwood, but being thrust into a role because lack of options at the position does not qualify you as core player and Butler has had a bigger impact than Kirkwood at a position.

Thomas, Ginn and Smith are interchangeable and 4-6 reciever spots are typically occupied by young prospects which Butler and Humphrey appear to be. Kirkwood could be put on IR to insure an extra spot for some talented recievers the Saints have acquired over the off-season.

the Saints made a conscious effort to add talent to the position and I'm guessing Butler and Harris have made this team.

Oh I actually agree that we are fine with the big 3 + Ginn if he can stay healthy.

I'm just setting expectations that there is really not much of anything else after that to contribute. We shall see with TQ.

I really think some people expect WR4s to catch 40 balls a season or something.

Either that or they have to be perfect whenever they are targeted, or they're a failure.

Perspective.

Saints passing offense will be Thomas, Kamara, and Cook... and Ginn... and TQS... and Murray... and Kirky... and a little Josh Hill... maybe a little Taysom Hill... possibly some Dan Arnold... a sprinkle of Zach Line...and perhaps some Emmanuel Butler and/or Harris and/or anyone else who makes the active roster and finds themselves open while Drew Brees is QB.

Ginn is the fastest we have.

Adding Cook to last year's roster would have made a world of difference. I think the number 3 and 4 guys made step up this year, but even if they don't, I don't see how you defend Kamara, Thomas, Ginn and Cook.

The key is a healthy OL rather than a stud #4 receiver. Give Drew those 4 guys and time to progress down the tree and we are set.

That drop by Butler was bad, but it was his first game ever in the nfl and he got open multiple times during the game while the ball didn't come his way. Everybody knows he can catch because he is catching everything at practice and even against chargers 1's and 2's he was able to get open. I doubt Payton has given up on him because of one drop.

I mean Ginn and Tre’Quan will get vertical but in terms of reliable guys that can separate quickly I think I’m a little nervous as well. If Nelson Agholor gets cut as he's expected to, he’d be a good add for NO.
