Comic Book Talk (2 Viewers)

Here's something to consider for your kids @Oye. Each of the Big 2 have lines specifically for kids. DC has DC Kids, which supposed to cater to the young to tween ages. Marvel has the Marvel Action line. It's specifically for the younger crowd and they actually license this line of books to another publisher (IDW) who has a good line of kid-focused books.

I didn't realize that - thanks for those. My daughter was always DC. I remember going into the comic store when she was 4 or 5 and talking to the owner of the shop and he asked her who her favorite comic book heroes were.

And she replied, "My favorite girl is Batgirl. But Cassandra Cain and not Barbara Gordon. Because I like Barbara better as Oracle. And my favorite boy is Robin. But I like Dick Grayson more than Tim Drake."

It might be kinda fun to revisit some of her favorite DC heroes from back then. She'd spend hours poring over the pictures in the character anthologies when she was that age. Then she seemed to outgrow it, for her anyway. Or lost interest. But now the comic bug has returned a bit and DC Kids might be up her alley

Get ready to pre-order this for February then...

And by the way, Dick Grayson no longer exist. He got shot in the head, no longer remember his life as Robin or Nightwing and calls himself Ric. :idunno:

So on another note, has anyone else read Batman #77?

I'm just going to say that, for me personally, Tom King has had one of the biggest falls from grace on a book run I've seen in a while. Dude was winning Eisners and getting near universal praise on this book last year and then it all started to go sideways with the wedding nonsense and then Knightmare and its just... really gone off the rails for me.

Yeah. Issue #50 turned me off to him. I remember telling once at a con that even though I enjoyed his run up to #50, he had made Batman such a polarizing book with fans that I believed that Batman would be better with him off of it.

Knightmares just killed whatever support I had remaining. It was beyond horrible and a pure of example of why some stuff shouldn't take 6-8 issues to write. That arc was just horrid.

City of Bane has been pretty good thus far though.

They have so badly been looking for a way to drop the name "Dick" for a while now and rebrand him as Richard or Rich or Ric or anything that isn't Dick, and this is just another convoluted attempt that hasn't worked at all. It's also a legitimately terrible book on top of that.

So, any thoughts on the "murder" of Alfred Pennyworth?

Frankly, I don't think it's real.

Ok, I'm convinced that House/Powers of X is the best comic book series Marvel has put in at least the last five years.

Prove me wrong.

I haven't started reading it yet. I've got the first 3 issues for each on digital now, but have been thinking about waiting to get the whole run and then binge. As much excitement as I've heard here and elsewhere, I'm anxious.

I ended up having to pay double at Lone Star Comics because my LCS messed up and left me without issue #2 of POX. So I refused to read the others until i was able to get it. Came in the mail while I was at Dragon Con. So many twists and turns and I absolutely love it.

It's the best book(s) Marvel has put out in a long, long time for sure. It just feels like it matters in a way things at Marvel don't usually feel like anymore.

Anybody reading the Conan the Barbarian that Marvel's got out now? Any good?

No. When I saw he was running around with the Avengers I just shook my head.
