...needs to learn how to keep his head up when attempting to make a tackle. On Watson’s TD run, he had a chance to lay a hit on Watson at the 3 and instead, Watson did a little hop and avoided a diving Williams, with his head down. It has to stop. Aside from the fact he could get injured and a concussion.

Marcus isn't the biggest guy. Keeping his head up and trying to wrap up someone like Watson and he will get bulldozed

Yea i agree he messed up twice on that play, he got sucked up on the running back fake and tried to tackle with his head down you cant hit what you cant see.

My buddy sitting next to me said wow he just did the exact thing he did on the Vikings play. Then they showed the replay and I was like wow your right looked almost exact. He wiffed Watson, didn’t even touch him.

He'd have probably gotten run over.

And since that hit ultimately had Watson grabbing his back all game, I guess it worked out.

But I agree overall, he's got to tackle better and he's got to get better playing the deep ball. He was way late on that long pass to Hopkins on the Texans final miracle drive. It was his job to be there over the top and take that away.

I was a big fan of us drafting Marcus Williams. I watched a few of his games at Utah and was impressed and was hoping we might draft him. However, here we are three years later and I 've been mostly disappointed in his play. Especially, ever 'since' the Minnesota Miracle. From that play forward, my opinion is that he has been a liability. Maybe that one play affected his confidence which could be understandable, but he also seems to be a step or two too slow. Is he hesitating, thinking too much, or just a little too slow back there? No doubt some of it has to due with our DC calls and packages, but overall I think he's grading out as a pretty average safety. If you watch the replay of the Texans last drive (1st play), DeAndre Hopkins runs right past him and Marcus shows up too late to help break up the pass. If he was our back line defense on that play and Hopkins catches that pass on the run, it's a one play drive and not a two play drive! Coordinators (and players) watch our game film and continue to see too many soft spots to exploit our DB's. What was the Texans third down conversion rate, regardless of distance? Only stops were when we had a great pass rush. QB's are too accurate for us to keep playing these soft vanilla safety packages.

I agree. He’s always steps behind which is the exact opposite position of what a safety needs to be in. Yeah he had an interception and a few last season, but those balls are simply under thrown by the QB. I’d like to see what chauncey Gardner has. I think he has better instincts for safety position

No way. He’s bigger than Vonn Bell, and Bell knows how to tackle and can lay the wood. This is pop warner stuff. Williams definitely needs to work on his tackling.

I admit at this point I’ve got concerns about Williams. He has talent but his instincts seem off, especially in late game situations, which can be fatal for a guy who is supposed to be the last line of defense.

In that last Texans drive, they got the ball back down by six with less than a minute to play and the length of the field to drive. Williams proceeded to let Houston wide outs get behind him not once but twice surrendering the go ahead score in less than 20 seconds! That can’t happen. Ever. I’m not saying it’s all Williams fault but if there was ever was a situation for your free safety to keep everything in front of him, that was it. Worse, it’s a recurring theme with him in late game situations and it has cost us before and almost did again last night. Payton can’t allow it to continue and I’m guessing he won’t.

Coaches need to get on him. I get they like him but I think they’re giving him a pass when they need to get on him about his mistakes so he can clean them up. He was the one who allowed Hopkins to get that final catch, he should have been over the top. I like Marcus but unacceptable. The interception was nice but it’s like one step forward, two steps back. He needs to do better. I believe he can.

It would be nice to see what Saquan could do back there tho. Maybe give the kid a couple of snaps to see.

I felt like he could have easily shoved him out of bounds, at the least. Of course, it's easy for me to say that watching from the tv, but at the time it seemed reminiscent of the Minny Miracle, which was another miss. It wasn't as bad, but that's the first thing that popped into my head. Bad memory. I hope he does improve on his tackling. He made an a great play on that interception, though. Gotta give him credit.
