I've been in a funk as I'm sure a lot of you have since the debacle. I told my wife and my daughter when Stills caught that pass that we collectively known as the WhoDat Nation could not take a loss like this. It would destroy our psyche.

We had to go through the emotions exactly the way it happened. We had to be on the wrong end of another bad call. We had to have a former player catch the presumable game winning TD. We had to go to jubilation when the kicker missed the PAT. We had to go back to agony when the roughing the kicker penalty happened. We had to look up at the clock and see 37 seconds, 1 time out and #9 running the show. We hope beyond hope because that's what we do even though outwardly every dam last one of us was shell-shocked....AGAIN. We had to experience the pure joy of the Lutz game winner which happened to be exactly 1 more yard than we lost the NFCCG.

We had to have it happen exactly this way so the WhoDat Nation could move on from last season. We will never forget but now we can move forward because we experienced that our hearts are still with our team and the WhoDat Nation is back.....WhoDat!

I wondered what about the Saints fan that turned the TV off after the TD and spent a whole day wondering why everyone is in a good mood after the Texan beat us..

Guess I skipped this one. I stopped celebrating big plays as they happen, years ago. I always look for the other shoe to drop. Never got excited on the PAT because I looked for the flag and found it. Probably took a good 30 seconds before I let myself celebrate after the field goal, as well. Think it's a reaction to years and years of torment.

Good post, though

I think as a group we all looked for the flag... On the Lutz game winner too:)

The refs were probably stunned by the suddenness of the 37 second drive and couldn't react fast enough to pull out their flags. If the conspiracy theorists are right, they'll be suspended.
Seriously though, they really messed up the clock management at the end of the first half. And after they discussed it at length! Can we at at least have COMPETENT officiating? Is that to much to ask?

I just knew the Texans were gonna get a TD when we weren't able to run out the clock. See the SF and Minn playoff games. It's what our defense does, like clockwork.

And I'm gonna be honest - I didn't think there was enough time when we only had six seconds left - barring a Hail Mary (and when have we ever won a game like that?). I thought it was over for sure. I'm still shocked we eeked out everything we needed to in only six seconds.

I was questioning if we really won today. I just went and watched it again...We won!

Glad for the win, but we don't ever want "to be on the wrong end of another bad call", so that part of your premise doesn't work for me.

FWIW, one of the talking heads said that is was "home cooking" on the clock on that last pass from Drew to Ginn.

I watched that play in slow motion and it's spot on.

And depending on EXACTLY when the clock is stopped (ie, is it dead the moment Ginn gives himself up?), it might have been deemed to have THREE seconds on the clock instead of two.

Do we have a Field General/Neo in Drew or what!

(What gets me is how CLUELESS most of these talking heads are and how they Totally Miss out on the genius of Drew!)

VP it was time we got one to go our way

At the game my neighbors didn't think we could run another play. I knew we could, but it's have to be less than 15 yards, without any scrambling or multi-pump fakes by Brees, the receiver needs to drop immediately and Payton would have had to notify the refs of the plan. I've rewatched the play many times and the clock was legit - I looked to see if they delayed starting it and if they stopped it too soon. If you factor in .5 seconds "fudging" on either end, it is still done in time.

As for the two play TD drive - inexcusable. The only bright spot I can take from that is that we still pulled out the win and we will adjust our defense to never let this occur. But that should have been the case after the Minny game. The first pass to Hopkins getting behind our defense - ridiculously bad scheming.

I think it was a blown coverage by a safety. CSP said there was supposed to be safety help. No one was home.
