From the way Brees was taped.. (1 Viewer)

I wonder why Drew came out of halftime with the tap off and his helmet on? He was also seen moving his thumb around. A little while later he was taped again.
At one point right after that Drew tried to pick up a football with that hand and couldn't even pick it up. Looked bad.

i bet he could grip it.... just not as hard as he wanted. the way he was able to move hit thumb u could tell he could grip the ball but HOF qb probably likes to have a certain grip to be comfortable.

You could clearly see he was flexing the injured thumb though.

If it's a ligament tear wouldn't that entire joint be limp or barely be able to move?

Just to clear things up:

Ulnar collateral ligaments are found in the thumb, wrist, and elbow regions. In the thumb, the ulnar collateral ligament runs beside the metacarpophalangeal joint. If injured, the thumb may be immobilized for treatment. This ligament is not the same as the ulnar collateral ligament of the wrist. The ulnar collateral ligament of the wrist joint is a rounded cord. It attaches to the end of the ulna's styloid process. This ligament is not to be confused with the ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow, which is a thick, triangular band. This band has two sections: anterior and posterior. The anterior is attached to the front part of the medial epicondyle of the humerus. The posterior section is attached to the lower and back section of the medial epicondyle. An injury of the ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow can be either due to a slow deterioration or an acute rupture. Stress on the ulna will cause slow deterioration, while collisions may cause an acute rupture.

i had a UCL... dr will do a mri and then a nerve test. they'll know the level. the nerve test was inconclusive in my case while the mri show the inflammation. recovery took me 6 months. i didn't need surgery. crap ton of physical therapy, epidural, nsaids. i lost 20% strength in my grip in my right hand. i'm betting drew could have gripped the ball but not to the point he was comfortable with. it's weird having a UCL problem. that weekend i dropped my iphone over a dozen times and i never had a problem dropping my phone before. my right hand got 10% weaker than my left and i'm right handed so that wasn't good.

saints have a lot more rehab at their access so i'm guessing drew will be in much better shape. let's see how severe it is... should know more by wednesday.

What you brought up about the nerve makes me think. I watch a lot of mma and I’ve seen guys get kicked in the leg and lose control of their foot temporarily but it’s only due to a “stinger” of a nerve. Would be amazing if it was something this simple but I doubt that’s the case.

no depending on the level of the sprang.... i had no problems moving my thumb.

Could y’all help out a non-medical professional and define ‘not good’? Like a month out not good, or half a season or more not good?

I heard the announcers saw that this type of injury has ended QBs’ seasons.... and I saw where Brees picked up a ball on the sidelines and just dropped it immediately because his thumb wasn’t cooperating....

If that’s the case....I may be done watching for the year. I LOVE the Saints like they are my own offspring. But I can’t sit back and watch them field pathetic offenses. I just can’t.

No. You have another one underneath.

If you look at ur thumb, at the base, and pinch the knuckle, the one on inside (by the V) is the UCL... Outside is MCL.
So you can wiggle since you still have the MCL but zero strength to grip.

Well, we wouldn't have to tank for him. We could actually just wait till the 3rd round for him.

Covet a spread guy with known issues with pro-style offense.. Bold move guys. This isn't college fellas.

Well, Joe went from 200-1 to 5-1 to win the Heisman. He’s now in second place. If he somehow won that he will be going in the first.

If he beats Bama and has a great year he’s going in the first
