WWL Radio tweets homophobic slur about WWL sports reporter Seth Dunlap (2 Viewers)

By what standard?
He made it sound like he'd be back on the air after taking a day or two off. At least that's how it sounded to me. I guess since I look forward to catching his show three nights a week, I've noticed his absence more than most people.

ETA: It really feels like he's been gone for more than a week. When I went back and looked at the date this occurred, I was surprised it's only been that long. Like I said, I suppose it's because I look forward to the hour of his show I get to listen to for sure three nights a week and have missed him since he's been gone.

i am definitely pro-poop

but seriously, do you think WWL has the stones to run Hebert out of town?? doubtful
Sorry, pro-poop. I've got a splint on my index finger and typos are pretty common right now.

I don't think they have the stones, but I'd hope that if it was revealed that it was him - or anyone else who is even a "big" name on their network - that public pressure would force them off the air.

I read it as "I'm going to take leave until WWL tells me what they're doing about it."

That's fair and seems like what he's doing.

I'm just really disappointed in WWL over this whole thing. Entercom should have even issued a statement, IMO, when this happened about not tolerating this kind of behavior at one of their stations and promptly resolving the situation so Seth could go back to work in an environment that isn't hostile towards him. Then they could've done a live broadcast of the outing and public shaming of their employee who did this. Turnabout being fair play and all that.

WWL issued a statement that it was abhorrent or something to that effect. I don't think that simply issuing a statement would resolve the situation for Seth - he needs to know who did it and what has come of it. What if it was a producer or manager he works with?

I don't think there needs to be some public shaming, that's another can of worms. But internally, WWL needs to find out who did it and they need to share with Seth their findings and what they're doing about it. Just imagine that instead of someone attacking Seth with the offensive slur on the employer's twitter page, they jumped him in the secure building and knocked him out - but he didn't know who did it. Certainly we would all expect the employer to investigate and if they were able to determine who did it, the targeted employe would certainly expect to be shared that information and what was going to be done about it. It's no different.

I totally agree. I was kidding about the public shaming. Your knocked out by a homophobe scenario is totally on point, IMO. That's what cheezes me off about this whole thing. I've thought Seth was basically the best they've got as far as sports go ever since he arrived and I had no clue whatsoever that he's gay. Since he isn't one to be all in your face about his sexuality, it had to take a lot of courage on his part to write what he did to Brees on his own facebook page. He outed himself to everyone in the deep South, likely knowing he'd get negative reactions simply because he's a gay who had the audacity to simply ask Drew Brees to be more careful with the corporations he endorses in the future. Nothing he said in his letter criticized Drew as a human and he gave him the benefit of the doubt, but because he's gay, this happened. And it came from his own employer's twitter account.

He deserves to know who that person is and they should be fired. Even if they don't out the person, the public should be made aware that they've been fired and Seth is welcome back if he so chooses to come back. I hope he does go back once this is resolved and doesn't take a step back in his career over this by going to a second rate AM station with no real listener base, for his own sake. As long as he's on the air in the metro area though, I'll be listening to his show, wherever that may be.

Seth is a good dude and loved by many at WWL. After reading many of the comments on here, I would say to hold on before casting judgment against Seth or WWL.

WWL has been a dumpster fire for the last few years. They now have good leadership that handles things appropriately. (3rd Gm in last 4 years). I’m sure heads will roll when this is done. Also, his choice, I can’t foresee Seth working at WWL (New Orleans) in the future.

There doesn't need to be a public shaming, but they need to come out and publicly state that the offender has been identified and their employment has been terminated. They owe their audience that much. I don't have a Twitter account, but imagine how many people saw that tweet on their personal devices? The offending tweet was made public and so should the result of the investigation.

I guess I missed all of this. I haven't been on Twitter much this year. I thought it was odd Seth was off on Sunday. I was wondering if he had some sort of personal issue. I had no idea this was going on.

I think Seth is great. I wish he were in a time slot I could listen to more often. I think he should have Garic's job but I'm not sure he wants it. He has a lot of freedom having his own show rather than playing second fiddle to a former player.

Hopefully they figure out who sent the tweet. I think there's a chance it could be difficult to track down. If someone had the twitter account logged in and they left their PC unlocked anyone could've walked by and typed that. I have no doubt I could do something like that with any of our marketing people because they just don't care about security.

I hope this doesn't cause Seth to leave the market. It will be a big loss if he does.

I agree that because it was all so public and so nasty, the public has a very reasonable interest in knowing the result of the investigation and the measures WWL took to remedy the situation. Not necessarily a person’s name, but at least an explanation.

He's conservative, but to my knowledge has not spoken out against homosexual rights. What have you heard different? Or is just a case of "C'mon ... he's a conservative ... you know how they are" ?
He hasn’t.

I think there is just so much activist media reporting these days that if you are even a hint off on reporting the way they report, you become a target.

I am thinking it wouldn't be difficult to find out which computer it was sent from, right? I know that doesn't necessarily tell you who sent it, but I wouldn't think an investigation should take more than a day or two - given that it has been said very few people have access to the twitter account.

Seth could have used the incident to really bring about meaningful discussions around this topic. He definitely had the platform and was well respected. But I guess its a lot easier to just collect a lump sum from a settlement.

Thou shall not judge?

Wow, this is still a thing?

I pretty much figured this would be an "our Twitter got hacked" story by this point.

Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
