Whiskey Thread (2 Viewers)

It's good, but not worth the hype.

i found it to be REALLY REALLY good. so very smooth and i tasted honey notes which i really enjoyed. Ive had the pleasure of 2 - the 15yr and Old Van Winkle 12 year.

Definite difference.

Now would i pay $1000 a bottle? no. Thats the hype. but then again, they bottled this 15 years ago ( or 20 and 23 years ) so the aging process im sure plays a role in the pricing.

Real retail for Pappy 15 is $100 +/-. The second hand market is what drives it up to $1000 +/-. It's probably the best one, even beating out the 20 and 23 year.

I have 1 pour left in my bottle. It was going to get used to celebrate the Saints Super Bowl victory this past year. Oh well, there is always this year.

Good Thread.

My go to right now is E.H. Taylor Small Batch. There's a store down the road that calls me when they come in so I can restock. I also try to keep a bottle of Old Forestor 1908, Prohibition style on hand. 1792 small batch is also an extremely good bourbon that's relatively inexpensive. I keep a bottle of Eagle Rare on hand as well but it always seems a little to syrupy for me.

Side question: There's a place in Austin called Swift's attic that has one of the better bourbon lists I've ever seen. It's an incredible list. Anyway, they specialize in making their own ice which is infused with the flavors of the drink. For example, if you order an Old Fashioned they bring you a glass with an ice cube that's infused with all of the flavors found in an old fashion and pour your bourbon of choice over it. The ice slowly melts and typically lasts for up to three more drinks. It's incredibly good. Ever since I've been there I've been on a quest to make my own infused ice.

Has anyone else tried this and if so do you have any good ice recipes for drinks?

Have you been to Seven Grand? They have a pretty big selection and allow you to do half shots to sample more.

A friend of mine that works at one of the Twin Liquors stashed a bottle of Weller for me recently.

yeah since they only dole out maybe 10 bottles in Louisiana. Half of em are gifted by liquor reps, the other 5 go to retail.

Geez, I didn't realize just how lucky I was to win. If I ever win again. I'm keeping the next bottle for myself.

You been to Nickel City on the east side? They low key have the best collection in Austin. All the PVW, Stagg and his son, a bunch of OF birthday, you name it. Reasonably priced too.

It's hard to get everywhere. There is a store here in town that has everything you would want... If you are willing to pay more than second hand for it.

He has a George T Stagg that he wants $750 for. GTS is changing hands around $400-450 now. I offered him $450 (it was for my Brother's 50th. I hate the secondary market) and he wouldn't budge. Pretty sure he has been holding onto that same bottle for a couple of years now. He wants $2300 for the Pappy 23 last time I asked.

A friend gave me a bottle of Johnny Walker Double Black as a going away gift. I'm not a big fan of Johnny Walker. It's not that I dislike it, but I just didn't see the big deal much like Crown, Glenfiddich, etc. Long story short, I am in love with the smokey nose of this stuff. I have been drinking it for a couple weeks now and I'm not tired of it at all.
I’m in the same boat as you. The Smokey hint is awesome.

I refuse to buy anything from people like that. Good booze is meant to be shared, not hoarded.

Spoke with folks at Buffalo Trace a couple years ago when Elmer T. Lee started drying up. Apparently, even BT employees can't get any directly.

Looking forward to the bourbon fad passing. ETL price has skyrocketed, if it can even be found. :mad1::poop:

My buddy who got the 15, recieved from liquor rep who flat out told him "you tell where u got, I lose my job".

Its crazy how hard to get. But I get it, you can only age so much for 15-23 years.

I mean we drank something that started its journey in 2003. Shoot man I just had first child that year lol crazy.

Sorry, I just got my phone powered back up after the battery died. Your text didn't come through. Go ahead and send the directions again. I'll bring the Redbreast 18.

You're a year late, but I did just get 2 bottles of the boss hog Samurai. It's actually quite good although I had no freaking idea how much it was going to cost when I ordered it. At least I have one for now and one for later.
