Zion to miss season opener and more due to injury (1 Viewer)

TNT has gotta love that their season opening TV matchup is the Kawhi-less Raptors versus the Zion-less Pelicans. I don't know if "we can finally see Nicolo Melli in a real NBA game!" will be the same ratings draw.

Per Rotoworld via Shams Charania:
Zion Williamson underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee on Monday and his timetable has been set at 6-8 weeks.

This is unfortunate. New Orleans has 2 world famous superstars and both miss 6 or so weeks at the beginning of their seasons. Hopefully, the Pelicans can withstand their loss and thrive like the Saints did, but this news assuredly zaps some of the enthusiasm out of the upcoming season. I guess misfortune was due after the team had a near perfect offseason.

I've decided to look at like this - if we can play .500 ball until he comes back, and then get a solid boost, we will be in the thick of it. I think there's a good chance of that - other than preseason, opponents don't know this group at all. Gentry still needs to settle the rotation. We have lots of wild card talent - Ball, Ingram (I'm coming around), Favors, Jalil, and of course Jrue.

Though the team will be built around him, it's hard to see Zion as a key cog at this point, as the team hasn't even played a game that counts with him. Saints have batted 1.000 without Brees. Let everyone get some minutes and settle in while Zion gets (all the way) healthy. I'm disappointed, but optimistic.

Six to eight weeks? Good lawd! So I guess going undefeated is out of the question now. :scorn:

I look forward to Zion getting back healthy. In the meantime, I think that it's going to be entertaining anyway and I will be watching the games.

This is exactly what I said to myself when Brees went down.
