The Saints are paying this guy “starting center” money. I thought we brought him in so he could either start at C or be a utility backup at G. I saw he was on inactive list and I guess he has been but I can’t understand why the organization is paying a guy that much money to be inactive. If Will Clapp is that much better (heaven forbid with the way Clapp got manhandled yesterday) why did we gv him all that money in the first place (4 yrs 22.5 mil)

because he would cost us more against the cap if they cut him. and we found gold in mccoy. we werent expecting that when free agency hit. luckily we got mccoy. i'm not sure how bad easton is, but for him to be inactive getting paid that much, payton doesnt like something about him.

The league hamstrings teams with the number of players allowed to be active in game day. So the Saints only activate 2 backup OLs. Easton will be active if Peat is out this week. And I hope he gets a look in practice because Clapp was a turnstile yesterday after he came in. Eason must look pretty bad in practice to get beaten out by the Clapp.

Yeah, if Clapp is better than Easton, Yikes! I'm guessing he'll be active and plays better than what we saw yesterday.

And Grady Jarrett is a really good player on a below average defense.

He will probably go down as this year's Kurt Coleman.

It's funny because few weeks ago we were all laughing and lauding how we didn't need to utilize Easton because of how much talent/depth we have and how we found McCoy. One loss and now the narrative is "Crap! We are really blowing it!"

Easton whiffed on some blocks and looked suspect in pre-season.

Can he even fill in for Peat?

I'm guessing that they are trying to develop Clapp as a cheap back-up. They got Easton as emergency insurance, not knowing they would strike gold in the draft. So now easton sits while they try to develop cheap depth due to all of the other salaries we have coming up. That's my guess anyway (i.e., that Clapp has not been outperforming Easton in practice). Though now they may need to play him if he is indeed better than Clapp

Wasn’t Peat a turnstile before he went out. I thought he gave up 2 sacks early.

Once Clapp was in there, they ran numerous blitzes and stunts right over the top of him. It was more than he could handle.

Going back to Peat he’s average in pass pro but heck on the move in the running game. It would be nice if he was a little more balanced.

He got paid big money for more than half a season to basically be a member of the PS. If Peat misses time he will suit up for the first time. I am honestly flabbergasted by this, I thought he was decent, I expected more. Kinda just want to see what he's got.

Considering the hole that was created when Unger retired, and not knowing what the draft would bring, they had to bring someone in during free agency. We were lucky McCoy fell to us. On top of that, we appear to have struck gold. If Easton is on the field, it likely means MxCoy is out. That wouldn’t be a good scenario.

Great post. And it would also be nice if he had a little more balance. (So as not to fall down all the time) ?
