By virtue of the tie breaker rules, the division leader of the NFC west is settled 1st. That would be Seattle, based on the Hawks win over the Niners. Then the next tie breaker would be between the Saints and Hawks. The Saints would have the advantage over the Hawks, based on their win against the Hawks.

Anyone else see it differently?

True...this brings on a bit of a predicament as far as rooting interests.

Even though we cosmetically could secure the #1 seed for a week via a Seattle win, I am not certain that that's the outcome we want in the grand scheme of things. I am leaning towards us needing Seattle to take an L rather than getting the satisfaction of having the #1 seed next to our team's name for an extra week.

Even though we own the tiebreaker, I don't like Seattle sitting tied with us with four weeks remaining.

Wait, do you mean *even if* Seattle wins tonight, we still hold the #1 seed? Minnesota is 8-3 and Seattle is 9-2. It doesn't matter which one wins for the Saints to have the first seed as long as we keep on winning. We already hold the tie breaker over Seattle and have the same number of losses as them, so the only way they can jump us is if we end up with a worse winning record. We have one less loss than Minnesota, so, again, as long as we keep winning they can't jump us. It would be better for us if Seattle lost simply because they are only a half game behind us right now, whereas as Minny is a whole game behind us.

There are still a ton of things that could unfold. Too much to try and factor out. The point is, should Seattle win tonite, the Saints will be the #1 seed and control their own destiny. Nothing really changed as far as the Saints controlling their own destiny to be the #1 seed. The only thing that changed by the niners losing yesterday, is now the Saints can be the #1 seed with a Seattle win tonite, instead of the Saints needing to win over the niners to BECOME the #1 seed. Now they need to win, to remain the #1 seed. Makes sense?

I think he is talking about the immediate short term scenario. If Seattle wins, the Saints are top in the NFC due to tiebreakers, But if the Vikings win, the Saints are 2nd in the NFC for a few days because we lose the conference loss tiebreaker to SF. Maybe fun to talk about, but none of that really matters after week 17, because we play SF (hopefully gaining the head to head tiebreaker) and there are more NFC West games against each other.

I want to see it happen just so the media will shut up about the 9ers as they fall to 5th. Seattle actually has a better chance of winning their division if you look ahead at the last few games

I really could care less who is the one seed for the next week. I care who it is aftervSunday
You actually mean, at the end of the regular season. One week in the midst of a season, does not make a difference, as far as COULDN’T care less, mentality. To me, it sounds better going into this game as the #1 seed, instead of the whiners, as it relates to the media.

No in a week. It is too early to know if the Seattle win helps or hurts us in the long run so I don't care which way it goes tonight. I very much care who has it after this week because beating the 49ers can only help and losing to them can only hurt.
