Comic Con Talk (Renamed since LA Comic Con can't get it together) (2 Viewers)

Ugh, this is not the update I wanted to hear. Looking more and more like I may just skip, which makes me sad.
I wish WW would offer some kind of a one-day "cheap" ticket. Like $25 for a merch room ticket plus panels. Or something like that.

I know there are discounts if one looks around. I just hate the idea of a family of four (plus two friends) dropping $330 on Saturday-only tickets with no must-see celebrities. There has to be some kind of hook beyond autograph and photo lines for niche (really niche) actors.

At this point, it's getting kind of mean to prod WW about their guest list, but:

The New Orleans con has added several from the voice cast of X-Men: The Animated Series. I know some go ga-ga over voice actors, but still.

What the hell? If it wasn't for the chance to possibly meet Jim Steranko, I would definitely be staying home.

It's an extremely paltry lineup so far with less than 4 weeks to go. I keep checking every day, waiting for something big, but nope.

Still nope: Jewel Staite and Sean Maher added from Firefly, plus one more bit player from Smallville. They're trying to make up in quantity what they can't make up in quality.

Really, what's much worse IMHO is that, apparently, none of the programming is scheduled. Little more than three weeks out, you can't go onto WW's site and see what panels they're going to have at the NOLA con. Grandadmiral wants to see Jim Steranko -- so is Steranko going to have a panel that GA can sit in on? We don't know, and WW doesn't see fit to sort it out yet.

Nope... I've already decided that I wasn't going to go. I'm not dropping $40 or $50 bucks to see one comic creator and a bunch of people selling t-shirts and prints that I have no interest in.

If there's a glimmer of hope, Big Easy Con's social media accounts are still active and they post things from time to time. But still, damn you, Big Easy Con.

Yeah, the fact that they didnt go radio silent after the con is something. When the Pensacon people tried to do Gulf Coast Fan Fest in Biloxi last year and that didnt go as expected, they made like one wrap up post and then eventually deleted all their social media realizing it wasnt a viable show going forward, I guess. But I also have theories about why that show was created in the first place, but that's for another time.

So BEC could give it another go. Hopefully with many, many lessons learned.

MS Comic Con just announced Billy Dee Williams as their first guest. Wow!

You mean other than screwing with Wizard World who basically screwed Biloxi?

I think they were using that hoping it would be a big boon for the show, but the last couple of years there have been local politics in regards to the Penaacola Bay Center and some wanting an entire new arena constructed. And Pensacon was also kind of beating that drum saying they'd outgrown the space and changes needed to be made.

So I think Gulf Coast Fan Fest was an attempt to set something up to become a bigger regional convention in case they ever needed/wanted to leave the Bay Center, but it didn't work out. I didnt go but word was attendance was sparse.

I didn't find out about Fan Fest until a few days before the event.

Yep, looks like the only Smallville alum missing is Allison Mack. Since she's had her run in with the cult stuff, I'm guessing that crew is set. Still, I don't think this is enough to entice me into going. They're going to need to announce a name along the line of Robert Englund (I swear I will meet him at some point) to get me to bite.

Flushing Englund's NOLA appearance in June was one of Big Easy Con's biggest sins in retrospect.

Yep. That alone was reason enough to not cancel the June show.

This can not be stated enough. I know we've discussed it before, but it's still a thorn in my foot. I'm just hoping that they can pull off a good round 2 next year.

WW updated again and they did not knock my socks off. They didn't even nudge them.

Xander Berkeley
Henry Winkler
Patrick Renna
Holly Marie Combs
Matt Ryan
Thomas Ian Nicholas

3 weeks out now and these are the updates? This con is the Titanic.
