College Crazy off season thread. (1 Viewer)

It also wouldnt surprise me if there wasnt some friction behind closed doors. I will be the first to say that there was not as much talent up front on defense as we would like but Aranda was still the highest paid coordinator in college football....paid more than a lot of head coaches, i believe and I think we would agree that we didnt get the results that we paid for. The highest paid coordinator in the nation should have been able to make up for having less talent than usual with his coaching

I have never thought of Aranda as a
college head coach. First, is he comfortable being the face of a college program? Second, can he recruit?

Aranda's skill-set seems better suited for the NFL than college ball. Becoming head coach at UNLV is a highly questionable move that could set back his career five years

I'm trying to make sense of this.

It can't really be a power move to get more money, the money just isn't there.
UNLV's selling point is it is in Nevada with no college competition and close to the fertile recruiting grounds of LA with the new Raiders stadium going up. Problem with that is the fertile recruiting grounds of LA are being picked apart by teams all over the country, mainly kids wanting to go to the SEC and all the California schools. Nevada turns out some of the fewest number of NFL athletes of any state in the country. UNLV gets almost no tv exposure and that wont change anytime soon given their location.

I'd take UNLV over bottom tier SEC jobs but it's no like he couldn't wait a bit and go for a big time ACC school next year and play with the big fish in only a slightly larger pond with a chance to actually do something.

If he does take the job, does he at least hang around to play for the National Championship without distraction? I mean, a lot of guys on defense decided to stay around this year instead of leave early for the draft. You would think he would give that courtesy back to the players. If he does take the job and bails before the NCG then he isn't only burning a bridge he's blowing it up and the roads on either side of the bridge.

If he does leave, don't be surprised to see LSU go after Jim Leonard and dip from the Wisconsin well again. Also, Jack Del Rio isn't coaching right now.

I don't blame Aranda one bit if he tries to better his career but I sure hope for his sake he goes after something that is indeed better and if he leaves he better do it the right way or he'll never be forgiven in LSU country.

I was just thinking about Jack del Rio. That guy is one hell of a DC, and he wasn’t a bad HC either (though he never won much because of the time he coached in). If Aranda were to leave I would be excited to see if JdR came to the red stick.

I say go after Mike Elko first and give Aggie a taste of his own medicine. I wouldn't be surprised to see Busch elevated to DC.

I am going to enjoy Kiffen just because he's going to **** with Saban every chance he gets...

Adding this here...

LSU's Joe Brady wins Broyles Award, given to college football's top assistant coach https://es.pn/2qDHtRo

O is starting to rack up COY awards, too.

Can't be ... I've read on this board many times that Orgeron can't coach a lick and that every good the Tigers do is totally a result of the assistants and nothing to do with Orgeron. I mean ... Orgeron sucked at Ole Miss, therefore he sucks forevermore. Right? I mean, he couldn't raise Ole Miss to elite status, so how can he possibly be a good coach?

[Yeah, I'm a little salty about this. Does it show?]

Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards announced Tuesday that Lewis and former NFL linebacker Antonio Pierce will serve as co-defensive coordinators. They replace Tony White, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Syracuse.

Lewis joined Edwards at ASU before the 2019 season, serving as special adviser. He was the team’s interim defensive backs coach in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.

Lewis interviewed for the Cowboys’ head coaching job, but they hired Mike McCarthy for the job.
