Ex-Astros P Mike Fiers says Astros used center-field camera to steal signs (Update: MLB issues punishment) MERGED (1 Viewer)

Not gonna lie, I definitely didn't put you in the group of everyone else is cheating so no big deal. This isn't generic sign stealing from 2nd base.

I’ll try to clarify. I loathe cheating, I just wish none of them would do it and I think most do. Not just the Stros.

We were 7-9 in 4 of the next 5 seasons. Make no bones about it, the punishment had it's intended effect.
Compared to what everyone that was gonna happen and go SMU and have 2-14 seasons for the next two decades.
I’m just saying the effects weren’t as bad as I feared when it was announced back in February 2012.

There is a culture that’s been established in baseball...and it’s kind of “if you aren’t cheating, you aren’t trying”. From spitballs to steroids to pine tar and beyond, baseball has always had grey area. There’s also the “in the vicinity” rule on the turn at 2nd base. People test and use the rules to their advantage all the time.

Like the Saints, the Astros are the league’s example. The penalty is harsh. And now it’s resulted in losing our GM, Manager and 4 high draft picks. From what I hear A.J. had knowledge of the scheme but wasn’t really a proponent. It was a scheme that was the brainchild of his bench coach Cora and former Astros player, and new Mets Manager Jose Beltran. But A.J. was responsible for them. He should be punished but this was excessive.

Lunhow denied knowledge but it was proved that he had some knowledge, but didn’t do anything about it. Lying didn’t help him. He and A.J. paid the ultimate price because it happened on their watches, and they didn’t do anything about it. I understand Crane’s decision, but I think MLB forced his hand with their harsh penalties.

I’m born and raised in New Orleans so I’m a die hard Saints fan first, but the Astros are a close second. We’ve been here (Houston area) for 17 years now, but my love for the Stros goes back to being a little boy (1970’s) The early days of the Zekhyrs being an Astros farm club played a big part too. I’m disgusted by this.

Hinch called the allegations a joke and lied about it repeatedly. I posted a clip on EE board from this past season's playoffs where instead of a 10 second, "no we don't do that" (which would still be a lie but at least a straightforward answer) he went on for 5 minutes about how obviously they are just in other teams' heads and on and on.

He put himself way out on a limb and it finally got cut off.
