Ex-Astros P Mike Fiers says Astros used center-field camera to steal signs (Update: MLB issues punishment) MERGED (1 Viewer)

Carlos Beltran, (member of 2017 team) has parted ways with Mets. He was named manager this offseason

I was upset that the coach and GM got fired until I looked into it because I wasn’t following it at all. They definitely deserved to be fired after I watched a few videos on it.

Don't be decieved. You have to consider the source here. "Jomboy" probably belongs to the "Moon Landing was Faked" crowd.

No, he's been pretty on target with this, and is willing to own up when he gets something wrong.

He's definitely a Yankees fan but he's also half the reason this is even coming to light.

Dunno. I didn't know he was a yankees fan, but that explains a lot. I watched his piece a few days ago and it seemed pretty weak. Unless he has changed the video.

Here's what I saw:

1. You have a camera panning around the outfield (center field area). While hes telling you the theory there's someone out there with a camera. My first thought is that it must be a military grade 10000 v zoom lens or the frickin Hubble telescope that can actually see the catcher put the signs down from centerfield.

2. Then he's saying the sign is getting relayed toward the bullpen. My first thought there is there must be some pretty smart guy to be able to decipher rotating signs that quickly? If so, why don't they just make him a hitting coach? Why send the sign to the bullpen even? Are they communicating via two dixie cups and a string? Is there some reason the relief pitchers have to know. If so, not much of a "cover up" was going on

3. All the while he keeps pointing out astros players are looking toward the dugout and actually hearing a series of morse-code-like signals audibled in with a bat and a garbage can (amidst the noise of a playoff game).

Unless the Astros got:
1. bionic ears for all the players
2. supercameras the size of a normal cell phone

and

3. a guy with a 4000+ IQ sitting in center field somewhere

I just don't buy it.

The fact that "Jomboy" is a Yankqueens fan doesn't surprise me. I'm sure there are millions Dodger's fans too who are "enlightened" by his breakdown. Much in the same way that liberals are "enlightened" by stories in Mother jones and conservatives are equally "enlightened" by Breitbart news stories.

No, the Astros simply won too much. Between 2015-2019 they stomped. They beat the elite in baseball and they drew the ire of millions of people. Hey haters gon hate. Hinch is a cocky SOB too. He's like the Baseball version of SP. He cut and dropped a lot of players too, including Mike "the Liar" Fiers.

This is a weak case that could have been challenged and won if Jim Crane wanted to. After all the money he spent to turn the Astros into a winner, he must see this all as a convenient excuse to pull his chips off the table.

Well there is the fact that AJ Hinch admitted it was going on, but OK.

The report already said there was NO finding of electronic devices on the players. It’s BS he even had to make a statement through his agent that he didn’t do it. Honestly anyone going after Altuve has rocks for brains

The report did not say there were no findings of electronic devices on the players. In fact, they did not even address the subject of batters wearing devices to receive communications.

They did, however, mention the Astros did not use any devices during the 2018 Postseason.

Here's the new hero of the Yankees and Dodgers:

He was so bad in 2017 he couldn't even hit the batter - much less the catcher's glove. You gonna believe this guy?!

The guys who are defending the astros in this thread are really baffling me. How can you defend this?

i bet you guys were quick to defend the patriots in spygate right? I bet not.

As my favorite radio host Ben Maller likes to say about all this. BANG BANG !!!!. He was one of the first media people to suspect the Astros of cheating.

This scandal just further erodes baseball. One thing to juice completely different to win World Series win an unfair advantage.

Well there is the fact that AJ Hinch admitted it was going on, but OK.

Sure - just like Gregg Williams. Better say what the league tells you or else say goodbye to your livelihood.

Also. You can read all pages of the report, but here's what if fails to mention:

Assuming you're sure there is a curveball coming there is still the challenge of hitting it - keeping it fair, etc. There is an edge, yes; but you have to have skill and talent to be able to do something with that edge. There is a huge probability that "signal stealing" will not help a player who is mediocre at the plate.

And another thing, I'm sick of people comparing this to Pete Rose. When you're the manager of a team (like Rose) and you bet against your own team, there is almost a 100% chance that you will lose - since you then have power to change your entire lineup.

And finally, how many roid head players won championships during the "juiced ball era" and the 80's when players like Canseco were finding ways to slip the shoddy testing protocols?

Astros beat the Dodgers and the Yankees. That's two of the biggest moneymakers on the planet.

i bet you guys were quick to defend the patriots in spygate right? I bet not.

No Spygate was just bizarre and I still don't understand it. This is more like bounty gate, where you have almost every team tries to steal signs - just like almost every team had some informal incentive system. Astros are like us. Small market team that doesn't bring in the big bucks. Of course, the more powerful owners are too gutless to attack anybody but the underdog. So the Astros and the Saints both get railroaded if they win.
