2020 LSU off-season thread (1 Viewer)

LSU going to have a big down year on defense. You can't lose that many players in one season as we have seen in the past. We have no pass rush, we are thin and inexperienced at the LB position and this young team will have to deal with a new scheme on top of it all.

I honestly think we should name a new defensive coordinator from within the current staff who knows Aranda's system the best for this next season. If that doesn't work out then we will have access to a lot bigger group of DC candidates to chose from next season.

LB is definitely going to be our biggest weakness. We have Logan, Shelvin, Ika, and Ferrel back on the D-line. Stingley, Vincent, and two freshmen who are supposedly close to Stingley’s level coming in. Safety may be our 2 biggest weakness. Just have to find some pass rush.

Inside LB will be the the week point. They will groom Brooks to be a pass rusher. We have a really veteran DL and CB's that can cover. Everyone is assuming Ricks will come in and start like Stingly, he's not. Flott is going to start opposite Stingly. LSU as a whole will be a little down this year they are rebuilding 10-2, but I think in 2021 they will back in playoff contention.

The best part about LSU having to play a lot of young players next year just means they will be that much better in 2021. If we can go 10-2 next year, there’s no doubt we’ll be in the NC 2021

Moss is gone.

Ok, who else we got that could possibly decide to leave? We've got to be getting close to the end of the list now.

I like Aranda but defense has never been a problem at LSU. Even in down years the defense was good enough to win a lot of games. QB & offensive line play is/was this team's Achilles heal. Even if Brady had stayed I would not have expected the offense to be as good next year. The stars aligned perfectly. It doesn't have to be as good just pretty good & this team will still compete.

I'm really surprised about Phillips and Queen declaring. Less so on Queen because he wasn't even on the NFL radar before the season and now has a shot.

If you're a RB or a LBer, strike while the iron is hot. Those positions take a beating, so the sooner you can draw a check, the better. Phillips might be the best tackler in this draft. Physically, Queen is how they draw up an NFL LB in 2020. I secretly hope that Queen find his way to the Saints.

Yep....I was shocked Etienne decided to return. He would have been one of the top RBs in the 2020 draft. if not THE TOP RB.

Dabo doing something right over there. Looks like Clemson is a strong candidate for Nat'l Champs next season.

Sunshine probably begged him to stay.

9 juniors gone to the draft. Coaches leaving. Keep your chin up, LSU. This is why they have the Music City Bowl.
I might be worried if so many kids that return didn't get so much playing time this past season due to injuries to starters and the blowouts. There will be a drop-off, but I think people are going to be surprised to see LSU right back in the thick of things.

If you put any credence in draft gurus like McShay and Kiper, Etienne was about the 4th ranked RB had he declared. Most mocks I saw had him as a 2nd rounder. Ranked ahead of him were Swift(UGA), Taylor(Wisconsin) and Dobbins(Ohio St). Maybe this is why he came back to try and improve to round 1.

Man i hope you’re right .. And dont get me wrong, i am LOVING all the aftermath of this glorious, once in a lifetime season.. being at that game may have been the best night of my life... But we are getting ripped apart at the seams with player departures, and coach departures... and it has to be incredibly heady to be a 20 year old kid on that team- even if you’re planning on coming back- and being celebrated as the toast of the nation, becoming internet famous and basically elevated to heights most teams only dream of.

We always have lots of talent to reload, and i take solace in that.. but boy, i hate to be ‘sky is falling’ guy- but if Coach O can somehow put together a 10-2 or better season next year- i honestly think that would be a more remarkable coaching job than what he’s done this year.
