I just want the best person for the job. Sometimes I wonder if Payton promotes from within because it's easier than having to go find a new person - even if that person isn't the best choice.

This isn't to say that Hodges wouldn't be worthy of the job.

could just as easily be that he bought into the system. He was a defensive assistant for two years before being moved to LB assistant so Nolan must have seen something in him if he got promoted and if he bought into what he was doing then he presents continuity.
 
Here’s a bio on him. I’d be cool with it if Nolan thought fondly of him and the rest of the staff thinks he’d be the right man for the job. 8 years coaching experience and former LBer in college.
