Sounds like many people from the forum connected with him about the Swimmer thread regarding trading for Burrow to see if he heard anything. Nick probably laughed at it and said it’s BS.
Then those people responded with “butthis uncle coach dog walker Pete guy predicted Davenport!” Felt like he had to respond how ridiculous that was too.

But if we're purely talking about the trade being agreed to no matter what, just that the NFL hadn't announced it, then yes of course that's wrong. The Saints were only going to trade up to that spot if Davenport was there.

It is Nick and trust me he’s right about the timing. Don’t forget that Nick had a full-length article ready to go literally a couple minutes after the Davenport pick. The Saints had shown some interest in Davenport long before draft week just as they had interest in Lamar Jackson who they would have taken had they stayed put. And as we approached draft day, there were a couple targets you kind of knew would be the pick depending on the move made. They had talks with a few teams that week and were able to get the deal done with the Packers on draft day. Swimmer was right about the player selected and I trust Coach Pete’s relationship to UTSA proved handy. I think Nick is pushing back against any embellishments as well as the use of the Davenport prediction as a way to legitimize all other claims of “inside” information. This is NOT an attack on anyone, namely Swimmer.

I think so too. They probably have talks with lots of teams about what it would take to trade into their spot with a multitude of players in mind. They wouldn't be doing their job as a FO if they weren't putting out feelers to get the best picks possible. Just so happened that the Davenport situation materialized.

At this time of the year No one really knows what is going to happen or what they are going to do. Draft trades are usually done at the last minutes. Things have to fall in place for it to work. These little rumors or speculations are just for fun and something to discuss about. Look at Swimmer thread. 1000 and counting. People just love to talk and it's something to do in the mean time. And that's all good. I got nothing against Swimmer or Coach Pete opinions. But honestly I really don't believe it anyway. So I don't get work up over it.

Let be the first to say I respect underhill he was my favorite beat writer for saints and miss him but what I think is funny is nick just pointed out one hole in swimmer/ coach Pete Davenport prediction. Ok you can make a trade 5 weeks in advance but everything else was close and guess what Davenport still became a saint. Also underhill has a chance to kill the burrow rumor but did not . I appreciate swimmer and his update and I hope this doesn’t make him stop

I don't think Nick was attacking Swimmer personally, just the story Swimmer is presenting. As a professional NFL journalist and what is obviously a remaining connection to the Saints and Saints fans, he's just providing his informed view that the story is a fantasy.

Of course a great many of us already knew that.

I 100% Agree, I love @Swimmer because I can tell he 100% him and dont give a something about what anyone think which makes me root for him. I seen him post and get 100 dislikes and negative comments and he come back the next day and post the same post. I still dont even know if coach pete's a real person, or if Swimmer is the guy that the Movie fight club is based on, but what I do know he loves saints report and the saints and he having a good time posting rumors, and basically enjoying life which is what he should be doing. I'll read a post by swimmer and coach Pete before I watch Skip Bayless

Yeah. I do respect Swimmer and his post. I may not believe or agree some of it but he has been respectful in his criticism and thoughts. It is really on us as "reader" to perceive it. They aren't forcing anyone to believe it. I don't get outrage over it. I just roll my eyes and move on with life. Who's hungry for some gumbo on Friday?
