Saints fight to avoid disclosing emails in Catholic abuse crisis (MERGED) (1 Viewer)

Sell the team for what? For allowing her PR department to advise on how to release the names of the clergy who committed heinous crimes. The Saints have done nothing wrong here. The Saints haven't committed a crime. This is such an overreaction by so many people that don't know how to read an article. I'm not pointing fingers at you specifically.
The sex abuse connection will create visceral reactions in everyone.

Wow. Catholism just keeps taking hits.

Catholism is its own worst enemy, the Catholic church's behaviour with regards to this issue is evil personified....

Again ... the Saints (and Archdiocese) could get a mile out in front of this by giving up the emails willingly. Maybe that will end up happening.

Maybe, but that would depend on the content of the emails, it could be quite damning which if i had to guess may be the reason they don't want to release them in the first place...

Thank God it’s Friday. Nothing wrong with what the Saints did here. Also everyone in the media loves to dogpile on the Catholic Church but the issue of sexual abuse and subsequent covering up isnt just inherent to the Catholic Church - it’s a pandemic across society that effects every line of work, social group, sports, politics, schools, and of course churches too. It’s good that it’s brought to light but it seems like media coverage is disproportionately directed at the Catholic Church as opposed to every other industry which has had massive sexual assault issues that were swept under the rug.

I don't think there is enough information to say one way or another if the Saints organization did something wrong here....but go ahead and keep on perpetuating how the Catholic church is some kind of victim in all of this because that is the exact attitude that has kept pedophile priests out there....unbelievable....

Because the majority of people are sheep and have zero reading comprehension. The Saints have done nothing wrong.
I don’t think you can blame anyone with first impressions.
It took me about five readthroughs of the article to find where the Saints stood.

Penn State allowed a man to rape kids on campus, and when they found out about it, did absolutely nothing except take his office away or something like that. They got slapped on the wrist, were bad at football for like a year, and are now one of the most prominent programs in the country.

The Saints or Benson aren’t getting in a lot of trouble for allowing her PR team to help the church. At worst, she just won’t use nfl.com emails in the future.

Seriously, if this is true, then [mod edit - seek a higher level] Gayle Benson and anyone else involved. If they are helping defend the Catholic Church of pedophilia, the they need to be condemned and properly punished. And they deserve no place in the NFL
"The advice was simple and never wavering. Be direct, open and fully transparent, while making sure that all law enforcement agencies were alerted. The New Orleans Saints, Greg Bensel and Mrs. Gayle Benson were and remain offended, disappointed and repulsed by the actions of certain past clergy. We remain steadfast in support of the victims who have suffered and pray for their continued healing."

I’d think it’d be wise to keep the religious elements out of the organization.

I certainly hope that is the truth.

I don’t see anything wrong with what the saints are doing . To me they are following the rules of court they are waiting for it to admitted into evidence before discussing it
