2020 LSU off-season thread (1 Viewer)

We will never see another team like that again, but then again no other school will see it again either.

There have been 149 National Champions that didnt accomplish what the 2019 LSU team accomplished. They still won a MNC. This team doesnt need to equal the performance of the 2019 Tigers to win another NC. They just need to beat the teams on their schedule. The 2020 LSU team will be more than capable of winning every game on their schedule.

Why the fork is everyone leaving LSU? Are we going to return to the 2011-2018 LSU tigers?

Can't fault people for moving up. LSU will be fine.

I get it. I really do. The only thing I hate is that I wish we could have had a few years of this before everyone started leaving.

By the way, I saw a story where LSU could bring back Bo Pelini. Would that be a good thing?

6 years, $42 million, congrats to Coach O!

What a difference in DC demeanor that would be. From the calm, cool and collected Aranda; to intense, yelling and batshirt nuts of Pelini.

Well, if LSU gets 2005-07 Bo Pellini then absolutely.

He didn't do a bad job at Nebraska. In fact, he has been the best Nebraska HC since Tom Osborne. Of course Bo is not Tom Osborne which is a huge negative for Nebraska fans. Bo also has low tolerance for doing stupid booster stuff, which is also a huge negative for Nebraska fans. As long as he avoids audio recording devices, he should be fine. He's done well at Youngstown and seem to be content with the low key job because it's home and people in Ohio appreciate his vulgar, fiery personality. I have heard Mike Detillier say that O prefers a 4-3 defense over the 3-4, which is exactly what you expect to hear from a former D-Line coach. He also mentioned that O and Pelini are good friends, so this also fits in with O saying that any new hires have to be the right "fit" with the current staff. LSU could do a whole lot worse than Pelini as the DC, IMO.

Welp, looks like Meatball really is headed to Baylor. Still awaiting the official Baylor announcement, but Geaux247 is stepping out and calling it a done deal. I assume O holds onto Bill Johnson as the DL Coach.

First Austin Thomas and now Meatball, looks like Aranda is sticking up on recruiters...

Really surprised we haven't heard from Chaisson yet. Logan, Deculus and Shelvin have confirmed they will return. Defense won't be in too bad shape.

DE: Farrell, Cherry
NT: Shelvin, Ika
DE: Logan, Thomas*
OLB: Brooks, Fonua
ILB: Baskerville, Starks
ILB: Clark, White
OLB/S: Stevens
CB: Stingley, Ward
SS: Monroe, Lewis
FS: Harris, Hampton
CB: Flott, Jones

That's just the guys on the roster, all of which received significant playing time this season. I expect that the new kids like Roy, Guillory, Gaye, Ricks, Webb, Ojulari, Toles and White will see significant playing time, too. That's going to be a fast defense.
So, a little tweaking to the (my) defensive depth chart with the players currently on the roster...

SDE: Cherry, Thomas, Fonua, Parker
D1: Shelvin, Ika, Evans
D3: Logan, Farrell, Jenkins
WDE: Anthony, Thorton, Moore, Mclendon
SLB: Baskerville
MLB: Clark
WLB: Starks
CB: Stingley, Ward
SS: Stevens, Monroe, Lewis
FS: Harris, Hampton
CB: Flott, Jones

Evans is kinda light for a 1-tech, but O repeatedly mentioned him when talking about Shelvin and Ika, so I think that's where they see him playing.

As for the recruits in this class, here is where I think they fall...

Oujalari, WDE
Gaye, SDE
Roy, D3 or SDE
Webb, SLB
Guillory, D1
Sampah, MLB
White, MLB
Taylor, D3

Quite a few of Pellini's former players at LSU have been on BR radio to discuss their time at LSU this week. As you can imagine there is a lot of support for the hire.
