Strawberry Fields

Don’t Let Me Down

A Day in the Life

Jealous Guy

The Ballad of John and Yoko

In My Life

.. the list is endless.

Yeah...and endless list of self-important, sententious songs. The songs he did with the Beatles was his best work, in my opinion, and, in my opinion were very much the result of collaborative help to bring his ideas to life in a euphonious manner.

I find his later work to be unbearable. The entire concept that frames "Imagine" is a step above the aimless thoughts of a child who upon seeing a commercial about starving children in an underdeveloped nation wonders aloud "why dont they just move".

He gets credit for his musicianship introducing us to sounds we would not have gotten less his experimentation....but that should be about it.

All this Beatles talk has me thinking.

What about the American Beatle? Harry Nilsson?

Love just about everything he has done.

But God I hate that coconut song!

I could rock this all day.

I can’t stand Bruce Springsteen. Maybe that makes me unAmerican.

And what about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? Do you think he talks like an ordinary guy?

Ok I was with you about Bruce until a friend made me go see him then I got it. Don't listen to him but will go see him live any time.

Not the biggest fan of Getty's voice but it would only work with what they do. And yes his speaking voice is a bit off also.

Also, I am in the camp that Kurt Cobain was murdered by Courtney Love, but either way, yeah he's dead.
The amount of heroin in his body when they found him is not consistent with then having the ability to shoot yourself like they claim he did.
It’s my understanding he shot up just seconds before pulling the trigger. And the dosage by itself would have killed him anyway.

Alternative Rock. That's what they all were...

If anything, Nirvana was a bit more punk rock. Smashing Pumpkins is probably a bit closer to Punk at times too, but Alternative fits the bill.
The punk influence on Nirvana is well-documented and unmistakable (especially on Bleach)

But I don’t see any punk connection to the Smashing Pumpkins. I was a huge fan in my younger days, and I can’t think of any of their songs that sound remotely punk-ish.

The day I learned Kenny Rogers didn’t write The Gambler was worse than the day I learned Santa Clause wasn’t real.

speaking of country music, Garth Brooks singlehandedly destroyed country music. I don’t know if that’s controversial but it’s true

Grunge is not even a genre of music

I guess I would agree, I mean it is really 70's rock with elements of punk and metal...

My favorite music is that which is not so easily defined/labeled....

I’m not sure if that’s controversial or true, it might be.... but i do know for a fact that i generally cant stand country music since around 1990, when Brooks came to prominence - whereas i actually like some ‘old school’ country from the 70s and 80s, primarily Kenny, Dolly, Ronnie Milsap and pretty much the entire Urban Cowboy soundtrack... Country music these days is mainly a bunch of 40 year old guys singing about high school parties.

I think someone already mentioned ACDC so I'll go with someone else, Tool. I think their music is good but I find it hard to even want to finish an album. The songs all have the same arrangements similar to ACDC. I mentioned in the Tool thread that I played all of their songs on the newest album at the same time(well I start with the longest song and play the others to where they all end at the same time) and besides the singing being off the music flows like it was on purpose. In fact I'd rather listen to that version over the actual album.
