Should be interesting to see if it is even put into action by a team.

"Team A may elect to give Team B the ball at Team B’s 25-yard line, beginning a new series of downs with a first-and-10.

"Or, Team A may elect to take the ball at its own 25-yard line for a fourth-and-15 play.

"If Team A is successful in making a first down, Team A will maintain possession and a new series of downs will continue as normal.

"If Team A is unsuccessful in making a first down, the result will be a turnover on downs and Team B will take possession at the dead ball spot."

Wow, that's...interesting. An awful lot of risk in trying that for the offense.

Yes, NFL football rules have clearly proven not successful enough to build a billion dollar industry. Let's monkey with the rules.

The NFL has routinely made rule alterations over the past decades, many of them leading to their current success. If they can implement others that increase player safety as well, why not do it?

Yup. But they are also facing millions, possibly billions of dollars in concussion lawsuits, so they will do everything they can to look like they are trying to make the game safer — while still pushing an 18 game season and balking at the idea of roster expansion.

Going for 4th and 15th from your own 25 seems extremely punishing if you don’t convert. If you don’t recover an onside kick the other team would have the ball probably around the 50. Id like to see this play from your own 35 instead.

I think the idea there is to prevent Hail Marys. A few QBs can throw it 70 yards in the air.

Not if you're playing against us. 4th and 15? We'd never stop that. And even if we did, illegal hands to the face or DPI or D-holding... 1st down.

Guys, if they implement this rule, we'll never get the ball again.

If they made it only allowable in the last 3 or 4 minutes of the game, it could make some blowouts/comebacks interesting.
And that is the ONLY positive gist I can scrape out of this.

But I too hate this rule.

You would think teams would only use this rule when needed huh? So it would be when they are down by a lot or towards the end of the game when they need the ball back.
