"Make it, take it" rule in effect tomorrow at Probowl as a test. (Onside kick alternative) (1 Viewer)

can we please just give each team the ball in OT. that's literally the only thing broken and an EASY fix.

And if the score is still tied at that point, what then? We're right back where we started.

I'm interested in seeing how the XFL's version of OT will play out. Short version is to compare it to a hockey shootout. Each team gets one play from the 5 yard line. Either they score, or they don't. Repeat this 5 times. If we are still tied, we go one more round, keep going one round at a time until the score is no longer tied. (I haven't heard how the scoring would work, but I'd prefer keeping it simple...The team that wins the overtime gets 3 points total).

A little too similar to college OT. But I would like to see both offenses get the ball in OT regardless of fg or td in a traditional NFL OT.

As for the proposed alternative rule for replacing the onside kick, I'm not really a fan of it yet. Probably needs some tweaks to make it work. Maybe different starting point and 4th and 10 rather than 15.

I'm wondering if they do institute this rule, if that means they are completely eliminating the Onside Kick as an option. Or if you can choose between one the two as an alternative?

It does make sense to limit 1 attempt per game, only if you are down to prevent abuse and really save it for desperate moments.

I don't know how you could actually eliminate the onside kick. It's just a function of the fact that the ball is live until the receiving team touches it. I suppose you could say that teams can't intentionally do it, but then you introduce more subjectivity into a sport that needs less of it. Teams would just try the Justin Tucker onside instead.

I think the idea is if you get rid of kickoffs altogether and go to an automatic team that just got scored on takes the ball at their 25, then this gives a team that needs to make up points quickly an option for getting the ball back.

I do like this as a 4th quarter Pro Bowl rule... there really isnt need for a dramatic comeback winner in the Pro Bowl. But I am curious what the ST Ace Pro Bowl selections are there for if they arent going to have as many ST plays.

I'm totally fine with the game ending in a tie, if neither team seizes the opportunity to win with a TD (or if neither team can force a stop). At least both teams will have had a chance. The current system is blatantly unfair - and penalizes teams whose strength is on the offensive side of the ball. it's absurd.

Going for 4th and 15th from your own 25 seems extremely punishing if you don’t convert. If you don’t recover an onside kick the other team would have the ball probably around the 50. Id like to see this play from your own 35 instead.
I like it until someone challenges a ticky-tak PI and wins it.

I think they are on the wrong track with this idea. The real answer is "Rock Paper Scissors."

Picture this: When the option is selected, the stadium announcer shouts out, "Roooooo Shaaaaaaam Beaaaaaauuuuuuuu!!!!!'

In that instant, all of the players leap up from the benches and match up with the opposing teams in a double elimination contest. Time limit is 1 minute for the entire process, and at the end, the team with the most players left has the option to take the ball at the 50.

Anybody who does not like this idea obviously has a low football I.Q.
