Brees is coming back. I’m 99.9% sure of it... However, should Tom Brady suddenly decide to retire before next season, then I think the odds Brees walks away escalate exponentially. Brees is ultra-competitive, and he realizes that he will always be considered “less than” the likes of Brady, Manning, and even Rodgers (by some)... Brees wants those records, and he doesn’t want to see a broke down Tom Brady steal them on his way out.

Nah. It's a

I think there's probably a lot of truth to this. Best case scenario would be for Brady to retire and Drew to come back, and that way, there'll be no talk of chasing or preserving records.

We know Payton talks to Glazer.

We know Payton talks to Florio.

This is one of two things:

1. Payton creating smoke so that he can finally draft a QB without worrying about getting jumped.

2. Payton genuinely wanting the transition to Taysom to happen, and the sooner, the better.

Either way, I find it interesting that Payton is saying publicly that they want Brees back 100%. Giving him the love he deserves as a legend.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, he's clearly greasing the rails to push him out, either this year or next.

Also, this line is fascinating since it backs up what a lot of Saints fans said in the moment and in the weeks since:

"especially in light of some private regret that, if Hill had been utilized just a little bit more in the wild-card loss to the Vikings, the Saints quite likely would have won the game. "

They grease the polls in New Orleans. Lol
Payton is about to get caught with Vaseline in both hands. Lol

I haven't kept up with this so I'm not sure what Brees has already said, but I could also see him accepting the fact that no matter what he does, how many records he breaks- he will still be looked at as less than.

You get to a point where you no longer care to prove anyone wrong. You no longer try to change anyone's mind. The only other thing he can do is win another ring, but looking at this team and how many times they SHOULD'VE been in a SB... You stop believing in that as well. If it was going to happen again, it would've happened already.

Each year that they fall short, chips away at his legacy IMO. Or at the very least, it makes it stand still. His legacy doesn't grow with each record broken. Not in the opinion of outsiders. If anything, he cements his legacy as the greatest regular season QB ever. Who knows, but I could see some variation of those thoughts seeping in. And it wears you down.

Whatever he decides to do, I'll be eternally grateful for what he did for this city. He's a once in a lifetime QB. Who knew that the New Orleans Saints would ever be so lucky as to have one.

One thing is certain, Payton is clearly trying to increase Hill's perceived value. The rest can be debated, but there is no doubt Payton wants everyone in the league to believe Hill is a Franchise QB. How much is truth and how much is trade baiting... that's the real question.

He's paying close attention.

I think he comes back, plays one more season. I wish he could go out on top like Manning, but I feel like his best chance was when the Refs screwed the team. I feel like if they had made the superbowl then, they would have won, and Drew would have retired afterwards. Now he is still trying to get one last ring.. but I just don't know the team has it anymore after falling flat in the playoffs, and at home no less

WHOA!!! I've never heard this view before. Crazy insightful

Let me play out a possible outcome of your point. So he drives Hill's value up to get a 1st. Then we have 2 1sts. We also have a 26 year QB who went 5-0 and had not played a meaningful game in 3-years. Payton could be up to a couple of interesting things here. Combine this year's 2 1st, 2nd and next year's 1st and 3rd along with Kamara and get Burrow. Or he could be loading up with picks to go with Teddy while Taysom develops or not. Basically a competition between Teddy and Taysom while loading up with draft ammo to let go or trade some of our young stars that we are going to lose anyway for cap reasons.

I have no idea, but what you are saying is very interesting

So why isnt Sean talking up Teddy? Because he doesn't get anything if/when Teddy leaves. Why hasn't Teddy signed another contract? Makes you think Drew for sure is coming back. Makes no sense for Sean to fo all in on a qb who has thrown a handful of passes in the last couple of years. I can see a scenario where Coach Pete is right and Sean is trying to get a first for Taysom to package to try to get Burrow. Should he do it is another question.

Honestly, none of this makes sense. I think it's a lot of smoke and we won't know where we stand until after the draft.
