30 for 30: Michael Vick (1 Viewer)

I am sure my forgiveness or lack of, does not keep him awake. I think some people do not realize the attachment others have to dogs. A dog only wants to be loved and love back. I have seen people hit dogs only to see the same dog come back to that person seeking affection. If you dont understand it it's ok. People are different. There are more than likely things out there that I could forgive that you couldnt. when my dog died when I was 1w I was devastated. I still have his picture on my fridge. When my last dog died 2 years ago in may it was like losing a child. My dogs are my family.
That's some of it for me. Family is family......a dog is a dog. I've had dogs my entire life and some that I miss to this day but they weren't and never will be my kids. They were pets. What Vick did was dead wrong....I would never condone that but he went to prison and has turned his life around. When someone does something people often say " I hope he gets the help he needs" and yet when this guy does get the help he needs people are willing to make him pay for the rest of his life for it. How many other athletes have done worse but don't get the same cold shoulder?

It’s funny in a way. Some of you are Christians and you’re going to die with the expectation that God will forgive you for your sins and allow you entry into his kingdom.

What happens if he looks at you and says..remember those ants you killed..they were family. They just wanted to feed their queen and build their pile.

can’t forgive you and never will..off to hell with you.

You don’t have to forgive if your reasons for not forgiving are justified and that’s fine...but just remember you’ll be looking for the eye in the sky to do the same for you and your many transgressions that you will partake in at some point.

be well folks

I am not his God. It is not my job to forgive him. He did not harm me. I believe he changed because he got caught. If he wouldn't have got caught he would still be doing it. 2nd he is a Falcon. I dont care what he does with his life. He was a great athlete but a miserable QB depending on your measurables of a QB. I prefer a tall pocket passer who scrambles out of necessity. With Vick if you didnt force him out of the pocket he was garbage.

He was one of the QB's I feared the Saints playing the most. Right up there with Joe Montana, Steve Young and any rookie/backup looking for their 1st NFL win.

^^This

The young Vick was more dangerous for opposing defenses than Lamar Jackson is today, by far. The Haslett-era defenses had no answer for him. Thankfully for us, his troubles began just as we were still trying to figure out how to support the Payton offense with some defense. Falcons crashed and re-emerged with Ryan, who has been easier to deal with than Vick ever was when he was younger.

I forgot just how cocky he was. Man, he was the worst. But in the NFL, you get rewarded for being the cockiest; and Vick never learned the phrase, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Had his cousin not gotten popped which sent the cops to Vick's home which lead them to discovering the dogs which lead to intense media scrutiny because it's Michael Vick, etc., etc.

They're saying, Yeah, it's illegal but ... failing to understand that when it's Michael Vick, they can't continue to operate under, Yeah, it's illegal but we're just going to continue to overlook it. Dog fighting wouldn't have gotten ANYONE popped but a Michael Vick. So much stupidity for him and everyone around him.

Is it equal? Is it fair that my two poster boys (and there are others) for Should Not Be Where They Are is Michael Irvin and ray Lewis have been able to circumvent their crimes and are still "beloved" NFL superstars? Nope.

Now, my heart bleeds for horses and dogs. Seeing the footage they showed was difficult but I wanted to see this story. I could never be a part of it or keep quiet if I knew someone was doing it. (And I think it's ironic that Arthur Blank learned of Vick's indictment on the plane coming back from an African safari.)

One of the interviewees brought up horse racing. Now, I don't think horse racing is cruel. I think horses love to run. But the business can definitely be cruel, and I know where used up race horses go .... and it's not to some big beautiful pasture or barn where they get sweet feed, fresh hay, full water buckets, etc. So the comparison is apt ... to a point.

I want dog fighting stopped. It's unforgivable. But I also want human trafficking stopped. I'll forgive Vick, I think his sentence was too long; but I also don't want to see him lauded again.

The dog fighting will always be associated with Vick and rightfully so. I'm not a dog lover but what he did to those animals was hideous but he paid his debt to society and was justified to be given another chance. He had some good years with the Eagles but when his athleticism started to erode so did his career. That's why I dont understand the crowning of Lamar Jackson so soon. He still has to prove to me he is as elite passing the ball as he is running the ball.

I saw where family and supporters were taking about the length of his sentence. But the 2 friends that plea bargained to lesser charges got 18-19 months. I would think there would have be an up roar if Vick would have gotten a lighter sentence than them

The lack of people willing to forgive is puzzling to me. People have done far worse and seem to get forgiveness far easier than Vick has. The man paid the price and seems to be a decent man now. Not sure what else he can do to make amends to those refusing forgiveness.

Ok I'll bite.

Who has done far worse and have been forgiven easier than Vick?

He may be the "decent" person that some people think he is now but the dog fighting stigma is something he'll carry for the rest of his life no matter how many people forgive him or don't forgive him.

There's not a thing that he can do about it.

I wish the animals he tortured and killed was on video. The sentiment would be completely different.

Sorry, takes a sick soul to do some of the stuff he did. He took pleasure out of killing as animals and did it in extremely inhumane ways. It wasnt just dog fighting.

There is a statue of a player in Baltimore. I don't think that guy ever apologized.

Some of you are very judgmental and have very close minds but that's okay because that's the way we were are raised its part of our culture. I been all over the world and something like this happens everywhere. cork fighting, dog fighting, bull fighting, fishing, hunting, etc. Some of you will be riding around looking for prostitutes blind to the fact they might be doing that against there will...but your okay with it that because it's pretty normal. Look at Robert Kraft he is owner of a NFL. Hell look at NFL, Boxing or MMA. why do you watch those? You know the long term damage done to those individuals but most don't care because it's entertainment.

Yes, if Vick didn't get into trouble he more than likely would of never seen anything wrong with it. Most people didn't care but they made an example of him. Vick came back a better person and looks to have learned from his mistakes. I was never a fan of Vick, but I can accept the fact he appears to be a changed man and a man should be judge on who he is today not who he was.

That's why I can't take the outrage against Vick seriously. There are cultures in this country that shoot and kill animals for sport. They take pictures, smiling with their little kids next to dead animals. There is a dedicated "season" for it. Stores that sell paraphernalia to help them kill ducks and deers and whatever else they wanna blow a hole in. The selective outrage is amusing.
